Who are The Cheeseletes?
We are cheese advocates, promoting the education and enrichment of this growing industry we love so dearly. We strive to ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive intellectually and ethically. Our commitment is to create a platform for cheese non-profits to increase community awareness and involvement. Through our collaborative efforts, we pay our love forward through organizing fundraising events benefitting the educational non-profits within the cheese community.
Stacking the Cheddah
We have day jobs, so we don't need a paycheck. To be an effective organization, we need to legitimize our status as a non-profit by applying for fiscal sponsorship through United Charitable, building a website, and having proper marketing materials. In the future, any of the funds we raise in our venture will go directly towards events and the nonprofits they feature.
Milk becomes the Cheese
In 2016, we organized a fundraising 5k event for two of the cheese industry’s educational non-profits; the Daphne Zepos Teaching Award and American Cheese Education Foundation. Reaching out to friends and asking a few favors, in less than 3 months, we raised $15k to cover the costs of the race and make a great donation to those nonprofits. At the end of the event, we knew we were on to something awesome. Since we are as nerdy for cheese as mathletes are nerdy for algebra, we call ourselves The Cheeseletes.
Cheese Make Procedure
We currently have the beginning drafts of our website in the works, with hopes to launch in February. Our next scheduled fundraising event is the 2017 Cheeseletes 5k on July 29th, during the American Cheese Society Conference, held in Denver, Colorado.
As we stated, we need to legitimize our status as a non-profit by applying for fiscal sponsorship, building a website, and having proper marketing materials. The cost breakdown is as follows:
- United Charitable Fiscal Sponsorship: $885
- Website: $5000
- Marketing Material $1,115
We are ready to grow The Cheeseletes to a larger audience. As a life-time student of cheese and beneficiary of two cheese scholarships, we credit the expansion of our careers to the educational opportunities available in the cheese industry. Wanting to bring more awareness to these possibilities, we decided to start organizing events to increase awareness and support. The money raised from this campaign will go directly to our organizations start up costs, so that we can focus our energy on benefiting our community.
By establishing our brand, we will promote cheese education and opportunities in the industry. We will organize more events every year which feature educational nonprofit organizations, with the goal to raise funds and create a more sustainable community.
Some of Our Cheesey Rewards
Risks and challenges
For us, the reward in this venture is to increase awareness and advancement of our industry's educational non-profits. Having one event under our belt, we learned that many hours, good collaboration and specialized skills are essential to these events. We reached out to a professional fundraising event planner, and Sarah is helping us navigate the ins and outs of hosting a successful event, minimizing costs, and maximizing earnings. Volunteering our limited time to this project after our day jobs, we are committed to The Cheeseletes success.
Being able to create an annual, sustainable industry resource is not easy. To be effective in running any future event, we need to legitimize our status as a non-profit by applying for fiscal sponsorship, building a website, and having proper marketing materials. If we are able to cover these startup costs, we will be able to focus on organizing bigger and better events each year, ultimately raising more money for cheese education nonprofits.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
