Visions of Seaside will be a hardcover-bound 9.5” X 10.5” book with dust jacket printed on high quality archival paper. This 608-page publication contains over 1,000 drawings, photographs and diagrams created for Seaside and writings and thoughts by many, including Vincent Scully, Paul Goldberger, Robert Davis and Andres Duany.
Visions of Seaside recounts the history of the making of the town, chronicles the numerous architectural and planning schemes that have been developed for Seaside, and outlines a blueprint for moving forward over the next 25 to 50 years. In addition, this book is a teaching tool that illuminates the principles and techniques of town planning, which have helped shape Seaside and launch the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU).
The publication was initially conceived as a modest 224-page book. However, the overwhelming repository of material, Seaside’s rich history and scholarly writings contributed by a long list of notable architects and urbanists have resulted in one more than doubled in size.
Our publisher, Rizzoli, has expressed concern that the resultant retail price of this informative document may limit sales and accessibility. They have suggested that we raise approximately $35,000 to offset production costs in order to keep the price affordable.
Prior to launching this Kickstarter project, $9,000 had been raised. These donors have jumpstarted this campaign, and I am very grateful to them. Our goal now is to raise an additional $25,000 and then it will be off to the printer!

Risks and challenges
The book, which I have spent over a year working on, is completely written, edited and laid out. Once this project is funded, the book can be sent to our publisher for final editing and printing.
I expect the book to be in production in April and books shipped out to our supporters by the end of the month. However, the publishing timeline will be out of my hands and in Rizzoli's. If for some reason, the book is held up, I will communicate any changes to you and let you know if the release date will need to be revised. The other gifts can be distributed on schedule, even if the books end up being delayed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
