About this project
Who are we?
This is a combined effort from Jim Cornette (www.jimcornette.com), Challenge TV's WrestleTalk TV (www.wrestletalk.tv) and History of Wrestling (www.historyofwrestling.info). Between us we have more years in the industry of professional wrestling than is good for anyone's health, so we know what we are doing! Thus, you can be rest assured that the project is in good hands.
What is this?
In February 2014, for the first time in his life, Jim is going to conquer his long standing fear of flights and jump in a plane to cross the Atlantic. The reason? To do a series of unique "shoot" style live shows, completely unscripted, where he rants and raves about a number of different subjects each night, at a variety of venues across the length and breadth of the UK. From Glasgow to London and a bunch of other places in between, Jim will be experiencing the uniqueness of British culture in many different forms. With this being all a new experience for him, you can be sure he will have many an interesting comment (see: rant) to offer!
We were originally planning on recording some bits and pieces of backstage footage from Jim's first, last and only UK shows to make a mini documentary or for bonus footage on the DVD releases of his shows. However due to the amazing response and worldwide wrestling press attention that Jim's trip to England has received, we believe that this historic visit needs to be covered and documented in full. We also believe that wrestling fans would agree. Everything nowadays is about 24/7 access so the question is: what happens if you take one of the world's most outspoken wrestling stars, put him in a foreign country, fill his schedule up and stick cameras on him?
We are not just talking recording Jim's shows here, far from it! Rather we intend to stick cameras on the dashboard of his car, take our cameras to dinner (and we know what happened last time someone did that), follow him around the country as he goes on sightseeing jaunts and experiences the uniqueness of British culture and of course loads from behind the scenes both before and after the shows. Hell, we will even give him a camera before he even leaves the US to watch as he gets over his fear of flying. Short of watching him on the can, we intend to record EVERYTHING!!! Some of you funders might even make the disc, depending on the pledge...
It's a huge undertaking to go to such lengths and record and edit all the hours of footage into one huge documentary release like never before. For this we would like your help. We want to employ a professional camera, sound and editing team to join Jim for his entire tour and give you an uncut and uncensored look into the world of Jim Cornette, like you've never seen before. Not since Bret Hart's Wrestling With Shadows, Barry Blaustein's Beyond the Mat and Nigel McGuinness's The Last of McGuinness has there been such complete access to a notable wrestling personality, and you can guarantee that Jim will be by far the most outspoken and entertaining of them all!
Why we need the money?
To make a truly comprehensive, in-depth and riotously entertaining documentary, we need money to cover the cost of:
- A camera team to travel with Jim for 14 days, including fees, hotels and transport
- An audio technician to travel with him also including fees, hotels and transport
- Special equipment that will allow Jim to have a fully rigged up car for picture and audio
- An editor who will take the choice selections and use them to compile the final documentary
- The purchase of copyright free music
- Filming permission and documentation
- A mobile edit suit to process the footage as it is recorded
- A camera that Jim can use himself in the US in the lead up to the trip, and also in the UK whilst the crew are not with him during the night/first thing in the morning.
- The production of the DVD, including menus, graphics and master copy - Full colour printing of the covers
- Duplication of the final product (printing and disc costs)
- Shipping the DVD and fulfilling the other rewards
Why should you care?
Jim is one of the most outspoken and entertaining men in the history of the wrestling business, as well as one of the most experienced in everything from the territories to the WWF/E, not only as an onscreen performer but also working behind the scenes and as a promoter. Often credited as one of the most knowledgeable men ever in the business, there is genuinely no-one better in the world to cover in a feature like this. As great entertainment as his incredible one-of-a-kind unscripted and uncensored live shows will be, this documentary will give the chance to delve even deeper into the mind of Cornette, with literally nothing off limits. This is not just something important for fans of Jim, but for any fans of wrestling. This simply has to be made.
What if we reach our goal?
Keep pledging! The £7000 covers our costs to get this done properly, as well as the cost of providing the pledges, but it is the bare minimum. The more you pledge, the more we can do as Jim can then travel to more places and be put in more interesting scenarios and environments. The quality of the documentary will be great anyway, but the extra money gives us more to work with.
Maybe you just want to take the opportunity to get hold of some of these unique, one-of-a-kind, exclusive rewards. For any merchandise outlets, website, podcasts, training schools, etc, the advertising offered within the pledges is being offered at an incredible rate!
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk we have is having too much great footage to work through and edit down into one killer documentary. Hence the more money we can make, the bigger editing team we can hire and the more streamlined we can make things. Other than that, not a great deal. Jim will be in the UK, cameras will be on him and being entertaining is what he does best!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
