So whats this all about?
I love fairy tales, plain and simple. I lived in Germany for three years, the homeland of the Brothers Grimm and I have been inspired by that time ever since.
With this Kickstarter I would produce 4 block designs measuring 6x9 inches and print them on unbleached mulberry paper measuring 9x12 inches. All 4 sketches are completed, and are just waiting to be transferred to these blocks. The 4 classic fairy tales I have chosen are : Snow White (Schneewittchen) , The Frog King (Der Froshkonig), The Six Swans (Die sechs Schwane) and The Little Mermaid (Den lille havfrue). I have also set up “stretch goals” where additional prints will be made if enough money is raised and at no additional cost for you.
I have already completed The Frog King, which is ready for printing and can be seen in the video above. Please note that the ink used in the video is for testing and a lower quality than what I will actually use for this project. Only the best for you all!
Where does your money go?
A very fair question. With $150 I can buy the remaining three blocks I need for carving, high quality paint for your prints, paper, and extra cutters in case they become to dull during the project. If I find myself with excess money from this Kickstarter, it will be used to buy 4 frames because I would really like to see these up in a local gallery. If I find myself swimming in coin, I have added stretch goals so you all can get the most bang for your buck.
$400 I will add a 5th design to the classic fairy tale series. All backers at $15 and above will receive an additional print FREE. So at $15, once the goal is reached, you get to pick two prints instead of one. Etc etc.
$700 Lawdy ya’ll sure are kind folks! A 6th design will be added to the series. All backers at $15 and above get to choice an additional print. Think about it. $15 gets you 3 prints.
Risks and challenges
Sometimes mistakes happen. I may violently sneeze and drag my cutter across a nearly complete piece, oops! But all that means is that I than buy an additional block and start that piece again. All sketches I have shown will not stray far, if any, from the intended block print at the end.
I foresee no large set-backs because art supplies are plentiful in the world.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
