There was quite a high demand for the Mad Hatter as the fourth design! Although he doesn't fall under the "animals of wonderland" theme, I think he makes for a great fourth option for those not crazy about the theme. :) Tiers have been added to accommodate those that would like to add a fourth print to their reward :)
Thank you everyone for helping me reach the first stretch goal!!
Well, hello again Kickstarter community! My name is Madeline Wilson and I am back with my second linocut project! This project is actually somewhat of a two parter as I take my artistic interpretation of Lewis Caroll’s famous story, Alice in Wonderland, in two different directions.
PART ONE: POSTCARD DESIGNS
I completed a set of small illustrations a month or so back and I would like to turn them into postcards. The original illustrations measure 6.5x9 inches, and the postcards are printed on 16pt premium paper that measures 4.13x 5.82 inches. The creation of these postcards are sent to a professional printer.
PART TWO: LINOCUT PRINTS
The second part is a small series of linocut prints that focus on the animals seen throughout Wonderland. This series includes the Cheshire Cat, the Dodo and the White Rabbit. A fourth design is possible if the stretch goal of $1000 is reached. Linocut prints, like my last project, are hand-pulled with oil based ink on unbleached mulberry paper measuring 9x12 inches. The designs measure 7x10 inches, leaving a one inch border on all sides.
As you can see in the image above, I have already completed the Dodo design, the most complicated one, and it is ready for printing. The other two designs are finalized, but are no more than sketches on paper. That is where you come in!
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
$275 covers the cost of paper, inks, linoleum blocks, production of the postcards, shipping supplies and a desperately needed new inking plate.
This Kickstarter campaign is made possible by supportive and kind people. I’d like to give back to those that help me! That is why I’ve created some stretch goals to keep it fun :)
+$1,000: A fourth design will be added (with a tier to accommodate those that want all four)
+2,500: A free set of stickers for everybody that pledged a tier with a physical reward! Stickers will be based on the postcard designs and maybe one block print.
+3,500: I will create 1-2 free, in depth, videos with tips and a tutorial on block printing.
I have two slots open for this Kick starter at a lower rate than what I normally charge for a custom commission! If both slots are full please visit my tumblr art page http://maddy-hatter.tumblr.com/, and click on the commissions link to find out how to request your own piece. Time required varies from project to project and largely on the flow of communication. Expect about a 2-3 week turnaround after I have completed and mailed everyone their block prints. My cost includes up to three drafts/ sketches to make sure I am crafting the image you want. Do not be afraid to speak up about ideas and/or changes to a sketch. I’d much rather know you are 100% satisfied - this is your money after all!
By the third sketch, however, you must be ready to finalize the image. Only minor changes can be requested and than we move forward. From there, I carve the image into the block. For the standard size of my commissions (6x9in) I use Eco Karve Printing Plates which are non-toxic, and latex free. 7x10in pieces, such as the prints for the Kickstarter, are carved on linoleum block prints. Both are hand printed with oil based ink on 9x12’‘ mulberry paper. Your entire order is sent priority mail. If you need the Wonderland prints and/or postcards ahead of time. Please let me know! During the process of actually carving, I like to run test prints with water based ink which I am more than happy to show you!
For my own portfolio, I may hand pull one copy for myself before I ship everything your way. At no time in the future will I sell copies of your commissioned piece.

Risks and challenges
I’ll most likely jinx myself when I say this, but my last Kickstarter campaign ran surprisingly smooth. I had a larger order to fill than expected, but it taught me my limitations for what I can accomplish in one day. Oil based ink can take up to 24 hours to completely dry and with space limitations I can complete 20-25 prints in a day. Postcards are sent to a printer I trust and it takes about 6-8 business days for me to receive my order.
I have given myself a little more wiggle room, this time around, just in case.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
