"Mmmm, mmmm! That is GOOD! Girl, where are you gonna be? How can I find you?" Beautiful words that came through the service window.

For the past 16 years, as a freelance contractor, I've been dividing my efforts between event productions, booking for a couple of local clubs and traveling as a scenic painter. My passions have always been travel, music, art and food. While working events, particularly Downtown events and music festivals, I always walked through the food vending areas and peeked into the rigs to see what was happening inside. I was a fan of food trucks before they were cool.

In December of 2010, I decided to take the plunge and I bought a restoration project, parked it in my backyard and began the process of refurbishing the rig and developing recipes. Finally, the rig is licensed and operational. The Kickstart will provide funds to do some final welding so that the generator and gas can be permanently mounted and it will pay for the installation of a fire suppression system. These tasks must be accomplished before the rig can operate to its full potential.

I intend that this business will become successful and self sufficient but the big picture will see it become a vehicle for philanthropic opportunity. Already, the business provides jobs for three people. Also, the menu is sourced using organic produce and humanely treated, pasture raised meats, providing support for our organic farmers. Furthermore, I pledge that 5% of goodfoods’ profit will be used to support other Kickstarter projects. Feeding the folks who walk up to my window is satisfying but nothing compares to the feeling that I get knowing that I am providing jobs and giving back to the community. Thanks for taking the time to read my story and thanks for your pledge. I’ll do my very best to kick it forward.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

As set backs arise, I will lean into them with the same tenacity that brought goodfood this far. I have discovered that it takes more than a culinary degree and a flashy rig to assure success in the mobile food industry. Beautiful trucks from failed efforts are sold every day. Those that have staying power have the grit to take one more step when they don't know if they have another step in them ... and they are scrappy. Very, very, scrappy.
