Kids, Eh? is a daily webcomic that features the funny things my kids say and do. This project it to collect the first year into a book.
Help publish the very first Kids, Eh? book!
Dearest family and friends,
Many of you have told me that I should collect my cartoons into a book. Well, now that I've almost completed a full year's worth of strips, I finally feel that there is enough content to get some books printed.
Even though I publish my comic strip online, I'm a book guy through and through. Books last a lifetime and can be enjoyed for generations. While the digital medium is an easy way to get large numbers of people to see your work, there is something about your work being in print that adds credibility. It is definitely a dream to see my cartoons on a shelf next to my cartoonist heroes like Bill Watterson, Chester Gould and Carl Barks. Plus, this is an incredible keepsake for my children to enjoy as adults with children of their own.
My goal is to raise $2000 to cover the costs of printing a small run of fifty soft cover books in full colour. I expect the page count to be between 175-200 pages.
The book will contain every cartoon I've posted on my Tumblr site from the beginning on December 14, 2012 until November 30, 2013, plus a few others that never made it to that site.
If pledges exceed the goal:
If pledges exceed the goal then you will be the beneficiaries! This might be wishful thinking, but if funds reach $5000, I will turn this into a hardcover book! If funds allow, I'll also add a foil-stamp, dust jacket! and maybe even a cloth bookmark! I'll add extra pages and include bonuses! Quality will be paramount!
If more than 50 people pledge $30 or more, I will be forced to increase my print run. That's a good thing! I seriously have no idea how much interest there is this book, so this will help me determine how many to order.
UPDATE: Now that we are successfully funded, let's talk about...
$3000 to print an additional 50 books! Almost all of the original 50 books have been claimed by backers of this project! If you want a copy of the book, don't delay! This next 50 may go as fast as the last 50!
SPECIAL STRETCH GOAL BONUS! Kids, Eh? bookmarks for everyone! Never lose your place with Peter to remind you where you are!
From here on out, each $30 or higher donor who increases their pledge by $10 or more will get a piece of original art!
Publishing a book isn't cheap. It is only with your help that I can do this without the aid of a major publisher. Thank you for all of your support, especially all of you who encouraged me to get that these cartoons in a book from the beginning. You are all super!
What is Kids, Eh?
For those of you not acquainted with Kids, Eh?, this is a daily webcomic strip about my two boys who were 3 and 1 when this started a year ago. Each comic features an ACTUAL scenario that happened in our lives. Some of the wording and staging has been slightly changed to make it more readable in comic form, but they are all still true scenarios.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Risks are minimal for this project. I've already drawn the strips, so the only thing to do is get them print ready and work on the book layout. I'm using a local printer so I don't have to worry about customs or duty fees. The shipment won't get stuck at the border or damaged in transit.
Of course, things can always go wrong where printing is concerned. It could turn out that there are major revisions I need to make in order for my cartoons to be print ready. I will keep everyone up to date on my progress and will give a heads up if there appear to be any delays.
Is the original art only available to existing backers at $30 or more (who then increase their pledge), or could someone today pledge $40 or more and qualify that way?
I would prefer that people actually increase their pledge. That way Kickstarter will indicate that it is an increase when I look back on it when this is all over and I'll be able to differentiate it from a someone who, say, donates $40 ($30 pledge + $10 shipping to outside of Canada). It's an extra step, I know.
