About this project

An ambitious undertaking has been launched to produce two theatre productions in Acworth this summer. The goal of this effort is to bring to the greater Acworth area not simply community theatre but a summer professional program. The intention of the project is to create a partnership and opportunity for experienced artists to work with community volunteers in a community setting to create theatrical magic.

Production begins in May with Shakespeare's As You Like It then starting production in June with the musical Zombies from The Beyond which includes set design, costumes, advertising and royalties. Similar expenses will be accrued in July for a second theatrical production. Including payments for professional members of the cast, set builder, director and staff, the goal is to raise $10,000.

Why Summer Stock Theatre?

A summer stock theatre traditionally brings the best elements of professional theatre and the community together in a way that would not be feasible in either community theatre or professional productions.

Actors and theatre professionals during the off-season can bring their craft and experience to the local stage and work with the amateur devotees to create exciting theatrical productions that would otherwise be too costly to stage in our community.

The Future

This crowd sourcing project is just the beginning of a larger vision for summer theatre in Acworth. By next summer, the goal is to add another production (a play) along with Shakespeare and a musical. Then to add classes in the areas of stage combat, dialects, musical theatre, and possibly filmmaking.

Risks and challenges

With theatre, there is always risk of not enough funds. Arts is the bases for almost areas of life such as cooking, construction, writing...you name it! :) But for some reason the arts, many times, are underfunded and struggle to stay alive. This is the risk of launching any theatre endeavor.
