The Adventure of a Lifetime! (Not ours, but definitely somebody's...)
The Adventures of Keith Flippen is one man's journey through an insane and absurd sci-fi universe based on classic sci-fi serials, but with our own brand of modern humor. There will be evil villains intent on ruling the galaxy! There will be dashing space heroes that win through fantastic oral hygiene! Attractive damsels in distress! Brilliant scientists! Budget permitting, there will be robots! In the middle of it all is our man Keith, a didgeridoo player just trying to make it to his next gig, swept against his better judgement into being sidekick to Colonel Lance Victory of the Space Patrol!
Watch the Pilot! Episode 14: In the Clutches of Queen Calamitous!
The pilot Adventures of Keith Flippen, Didgeridoo Player from the 3rd Dimension pays homage to the down and dirty, cheap film-making of classic serials, something we wish to continue. We embrace old school SFX that consist of pie plate spaceships with sparklers at the back to look like high tech rockets, paper mache planets, and foam rubber aliens. Our goal is to produce a funny, self-aware web series in the style of these old serials (that we love so much) and bring the 'pie plates and sparklers' school of film making into the new millennium with retro props and effects.
It's hard to do sci-fi, and it's even harder to do funny sci-fi. The original Keith Flippen was produced for our local 48 Hour Film Project. We met with positive acclaim (winning several awards including Best Film, Best Acting, and Best Writing). We also won the 2013 Big Easy International Film and Music Festivals "Filmmaker to Watch" Award.
We've received two repeating questions: "Is Queen Calamitous single?" and "When is the next episode?" Of course, the answer to Queen Calamitous's relationship status was often met with a bloody end and a horde of Nazi Zombies (again, we're sorry Intern 3), the second question answer was, "When we can fund it."
Which brings us to...
Become Part of the Adventures Today!
This is the part of the pitch where we remind you about how for less than a cup of delicious, delicious coffee, you can help independent filmmakers like us fight to exist and be heard in a world full of big, Hollywood studios. For less than the price of a bucket of movie popcorn (with artificial butter flavored grease), we're promising you the gift of laughter for six whole episodes! Plus, swag. Sweet, sweet swag. Help us help you laugh, and help Colonel Victory make the galaxy a safer place.
Colonel Victory would undoubtedly remind us that your donations will go toward helping us help him make the galaxy a safer place. You will be helping to crowdfund our production, all the way from "Talent" to "Key Grip". Aren't films exciting!?!
Production Design - We are going to build sets, spaceships, and costumes. The original adventure was made on caffeine and promises of computer tech support and what was lying around our crew of 30's houses. Which means, our original sets, props, and costumes are mostly gone. (Don't worry! Queen Calamitous's costume is still intact!) Many of the pieces were held together with duct tape and safety pins just long enough for the shot. We'd like to up our game a bit, and give our fantastic design team a chance to do us proud. Plus, we really, really want to include a robot.
Talent- We'd really like to pay our people... We've been very lucky so far that all of our actors and production staff have donated their time and energy free of charge, but they are talented enough that we would really like to pay them with more than just finger sandwiches and all the Mr. Pibb they can drink. (Well, except for the writers... we'll just continue to throw no frills chicken nuggets into their cages until they write more funny. It's not a perfect system, but it works.)
Catering - Since we're not raising enough money to pay most of our production team, we have to buy their commitments in tasty snacks. (Tasty being a relative term - in New Orleans, "tasty" involves a large pot of boiling crawdads, corn and potatoes. Your "tasty" experience may vary.)
Vote Today and Be A Part of the Creative Process!
One dollar... One Vote... One Winner... You decide!
We believe in our supporters, and to show our support, we want you to support your favorite character!
Six characters to vote for... but there can be only one (sans beheading)! When you back one of our special dollar tiers, you cast a single vote for that character. If you back a more expensive tier, each dollar counts as vote (i.e. $25 tier = 25 votes). You may back more than one character. Because these higher tiers don't indicate who you are voting for, we will contact you about who you wish to vote for, and how you wish to distribute your votes.
Additionally, if you'd prefer, we'll announce your vote to the world via Twitter from the @the_zbbc account (just include your Twitter handle in reply).

Go Big or Go Home (And other Kickstarter Cliches)
The Adventures of Keith Flippen is using our $9,000 Kickstarter goal as partial funding for the first 6 episodes of what we hope can be a 10 episode season.
If we reach 125% of our goal, we will completely fund Episode 7!
If we reach 150% of our goal, we will completely fund Episode 8!
If we reach 175% of our goal, we will completely fund Episode 9!
And if we reach 200% of our goal, we will be able to completely fund the Musical Season Finale! And trust me, you want to see this. Queen Calamitous has quite a set of pipes.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Hurricanes. Acts of God. Consistent filming - it is very difficult to have a large group of people working on a project for extended periods of time without pay. Paying them always helps. Our team has competed in our local 48 hour film project for the past three years, and so we are used to strict deadlines, limited funding, and the effects of Murphy's Law. We have overcome incredible challenges in the past, so we know that we can defeat anything with our experience and outside the box thinking!
What is the 48 Hour Film Project or 48HFP? And what does it have to do with the Adventures of Keith Flippen?
The 48 Hour Film Project is a world wide challenge to make a 3-7 minute short film from creation to completion in 48 hours. That includes, scripting, filming, editing, and special effects. Filmmakers compete on a city level, then on a international level. Each film is also give some restrictions. Filmmakers must use their assigned genre pulled from a hat (ours was Adventure Serial), then all teams must incorporate a prop (ring), a character (Keith Flippen, musician), and a line of dialogue ("There's only one way to know for sure."). The Adventures of Keith Flippen was the New Orleans city winner and will be participating in the next level of competition March 7-11 at Filmapalooza in Los Angeles.
