*UPDATE 11/28* Tree creature plushies! They exist! New limited tier added - check out Update #5 for details!
*UPDATE 11/14* For one of our back-of-the-book extras, we'll be including minicomics of Q&A time with the characters. Want to suggest some questions to inflict upon them? You can use the form here.
Tamuran tells the story of a kingdom besieged by dark forces and ancient magics, and the people who are trying to save their home from disaster after the king's elder sons make a pact with long-banished sorcerers in order to depose their father and younger brother and seize the throne. Book 1 followed Nashua, a wild elf who had come to the capital seeking aid after his entire clan vanished, Varony, a cheerful traveler with no past, and Kip, a shapeshifter formerly companioned to the late court physician, as they unwittingly became entangled in the princes' plot. In Book 2 they must escape the capital in the midst of the coup and travel across the kingdom at the behest of the king, protecting a mysterious messenger who may be the only hope of finding aid against the sorcerers. But the sorcerers' dark powers already have a stranglehold on the land, and as the party's own secrets come to light, they may find it hard to make it to Tamuran's border in one piece...
In order to print the books we need to raise at least $8000. This will cover the book printing and campaign rewards, plus shipping and Kickstarter fees. We're printing the books with the same local printer that printed our initial run of Book 1 - they've agreed to reduce their prices for us to print a large number of books, so for this run we are planning to print 500 copies of Book 2 and also 500 copies of Book 1. While printing with a small shop may be a little more expensive than going through a large company, it allows us to communicate directly with the printers at every step of the process and reduces the overall carbon footprint of the project since we don't have to have the books shipped from across the country or overseas. A lot of people have complimented us on the quality of Book 1, and we're glad to give more business to a small shop for their really beautiful work!
This is an all-or-nothing campaign, so if we don't raise $8000 by the end of the campaign, the books will not be printed and no one will be charged. You can change your pledge level at any time before the end of the campaign. And if you would like to help out but can't donate financially, please share the campaign link with your friends and everyone you know. This campaign is a big undertaking for us, and every link helps!
Besides our everlasting gratitude, here are the things you can receive for helping to fund our campaign. All artwork (and stamp-carving for the embossed buttons and bookmarks) is by Eren unless otherwise noted.
We've included the $30 and $45 levels with both Book 1 and Book 2 for your convenience, but please note that at the $25 tier, $40 tier, or any tier $50 and above you can also add a copy of Book 1 for $15 (please add $5 extra if you're shipping internationally or $3 for shipping to Canada), or a copy of Book 1 with a custom sketch and the Book 1 PDF for $20 (plus $5 international shipping, $3 to Canada).
We may be adding a surprise level halfway through the campaign, so stay tuned!
Donate $15 to get a signed copy of Book 2. No frills, just the book!
Donate $25 to get a signed copy of Book 2 with a custom sketch of the Tamuran character of your choice on the title page, plus the PDF of Book 2 and two mp3s of "Racing the Night," the music Chezhnian composed and performed for the campaign video - one of the piano solo, and one of the EPIC REMIX featuring uilleann pipes and Irish tin whistle (performed by Eren).
You can listen to a short sample of that version here:
Donate $30 to get signed, no-frills copies of Book 1 and Book 2.
Donate $40 to get a signed, custom-sketched copy of Book 2, PLUS extra thank-you shinies: a set of three embossed 1.25" buttons featuring the Three Dragons who are the deities of the Tamuran setting, a gold metallic embossed Red Dragon bookmark, and the set of stained-glass mini-print cards (see the $12 tier above).
Donate $45 to get signed, custom-sketched copies of Book 1 and Book 2, plus the PDFs of both books and the "Racing the Night" mp3s.
Donate $50 to get a signed, sketched copy of Book 2, the Book 2 PDF, the "Racing the Night" mp3s, the buttons, bookmark, and card set, and two 8.5x11" prints of new artwork done for this campaign
Donate $80 to get everything at the $50 level, plus a 6x9" watercolor painting by Eren of a Tamuran character of your choice.
Donate $95 to get everything at the $50 tier plus a plushie tree creature, inspired by a particularly popular April Fools' Day picture (see Update #5 for details on that). The creature is made of super soft, totally pettable cotton flannel with polyester fleece and satin accents and poly fill stuffing. It has weighted feet filled with beanbag beans! Measuring 15 inches from nose to tail base with an additional 11 inches for the tail, 17 inches from claw to claw on its front leg span and 15" in the back, it is just the right size for cuddling! Handmade by us, so this tier is limited!
Donate $120 to get everything at the $50 level plus an art commission (9x12", up to three characters) in your choice of media (colored pencil, marker, watercolor, digital) by Eren. You can see more examples of Eren's art at ansuz.deviantart.com. (Music and art comissions may not be used for commercial or "for profit" ventures.)
OR donate $120 to get everything at the $50 level, plus a commission of one of Chezhnian's notorious glitter dragon paintings. A dragon (or similar beastie) in your choice of style, colors, and pose, painted in acrylic and metallic paints on 16x20" unstretched canvas and liberally coated in glorious glitter. You can see scans of some of her glitter dragons here and here, but since glitter doesn't scan very well, here is a video to give you a better idea of the effect:
Donate $300 to get everything at the $50 level, plus a cameo in an upcoming Tamuran page. You or your character will be drawn into the comic in a non-speaking role in an upcoming chapter.
OR donate $300 to get everything at the $50 level, plus commission Chezhnian to write a 2-minute piano composition on a theme of your choice. Does your RP character need a theme song? You will receive an mp3 recording of the song, plus a midi file and sheet music. (Music and art comissions may not be used for commercial or "for profit" ventures.)
For quick reference, here is a chart showing what's included in each tier:
Again, you can add a print copy of Book 1 to the $25 tier, $40 tier, or any tier $50 and above for $15 extra (plus $5 for international shipping or $3 for shipping to Canada), OR a custom-sketched copy of Book 1 plus the Book 1 PDF for $20 extra (plus $5 international shipping or $3 to Canada).
If you have questions about anything listed above, please let us know!
Thank you so much for checking out our campaign!
Risks and challenges
This is the second softcover comic volume we have printed, so we are familiar with the process and already have the general formatting ready to go from Book 1. The Book 2 comic pages are completed, so all that's left is to polish them up for print, create the book cover, and finish the back-of-the-book extras.
When we printed Book 1, the books were delayed for several months because the printer we were originally working with couldn't get the pages to print properly, though neither we nor they could find anything wrong with the files. In the end we came to a mutual agreement to break contract, and we printed the books with our local print shop instead. We will be working with the same local print shop for Book 2, so we don't foresee any file issues or similar delays this time. Still, we're aware that unexpected problems can arise no matter how well you plan, and if we hit any unforeseen snags we will make sure to let our backers know right away.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
