Hi, I'm Kate, a mum and dietitian, on a mission to make mealtimes happier and healthier. But how do you get your kids to CHOOSE vegetables?
Step 1 is Veggie Marketing 101!
The food industry spends billions of dollars a year influencing you to automatically associate hunger (problem) with their particular food (solution).
We are all about ensuring hungry associates to vegetables and not any particular brand of (possibly unhealthy) food. For your kids to eat vegetables more often, vegetables have to become and remain "top of mind".
The easiest way to increase awareness and build positive associations with vegetables is by creating enjoyable food experiences AWAY from the table.
Once vegetables are top of mind, your kids will be less fussy, they will CHOOSE vegetables more often and dinner times will be enjoyable experiences!
Why did we create this book?
"What If Vegetables Were People?" was written to build kids' awareness and create fun, positive associations with vegetables! We'd love to see children worldwide enjoying their veggies!
My children, Elijah (11), Oliver (9), Ari (6) and Lily (4) created the ideas and storyline for our book. They looked at the veggies and designed their unique personalities and we made fun rhymes together to appeal to other kids.
How can you help?
The book is now written and illustrated, but we need your support to bring this project to life.
We are raising money to:
- pay a graphic designer to bring the book to print ready stage
- pay for the printing of our first print run (5000 copies)
- Shipping and distribution of the books
Project Budget (total $22,000):
5000 copies printed = $20,000
Graphic Design = $600
Shipping, storage and distribution = $1400
If we can raise $12,000 from this Kickstarter campaign, we are ready to contribute $10,000 of our own funds to fund the remainder of the project budget.
Please help us get What If Vegetables Were People into homes, kinders, libraries and schools around the world, so kids everywhere can have a positive food experience, through this first-of-its-kind book!
You can make a pledge, or pre-pay a copy of the book for yourself... or buy multiple copies as great educational gifts to arrive in time for Christmas!
Thanks in advance for your support. We hope you and your loved ones enjoy What If Vegetables Were People.
PLUS if we reach our target, we will donate 100 books to local kinders and pre-schools!

P.S. We'd also love it if you could share this with your friends and community - together we can change the world!
Big Announcement - What If Fruit Were Animals
We said if we reached 75% funded that their would be a big announcement. Well guess what! What if Vegetables Were People has a sequel - What If Fruit Were Animals! And because we are now 75% funded we will be able to do a smaller print run of this book too! Hooray!
P.P.S Check out our punny t-shirts (now a reward!)!
Risks and challenges
There are risks associated with any new venture. When it comes to publishing a book the main risks are:
- The quality and skill of the printer
- Delays in illustration or getting print-ready
We believe we are in an excellent position to manage these risks. Firstly, we have already completed the entire text and illustration for the book. Our illustrator is in regular contact still and can do last minute changes if required.
We have also arranged a graphic designer who will make the book print-ready (adding barcodes, dedications, etc). There will be minimal time delay from the point of full funding of this project to the print-ready stage.
The good news here is that this is Kate's second self-published book! The first was completed 2 years ago thanks to a local government grant. This experience means that our time-frames and budgets are realistic.
Past experience has been used to estimate the date for completion and we are confident of delivering this project on-time.
Of course the biggest risk is the printer. Again here we have experience on our side. We will be using the same printer as we did for our previous project - so we know the quality will be excellent and the time-frames as per our project plan.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
