Roscoe Outdoor produces technical outdoor clothing from our headquarters in Red Lodge, Montana. Three years ago we started producing synthetic pants designed for climbing, hiking, and paddling. As we compete with well-known industry brands, we have had to watch costs closely, leading us to produce most of our clothing overseas.
However, we want to source and manufacture more of our technical outdoor clothing closer to home.
And, judging from customer feedback, you do too. Domestic production allows us to reduce product lead times, ship materials and goods shorter distances, and support the US textile industry while also giving us the opportunity for greater oversight of our clothing from design to completion. Our Polartec Thermal Pro pullover fleece offers customers the chance to own a high-quality, technical garment, sourced and manufactured in the United States – a rarity in performance outerwear. By offering the product directly to consumers via Kickstarter, we have managed to keep the price of the pullover comparable to what other brands charge for similar garments produced overseas.
Getting our Yellowstone fleece ready for production required months of pattern refinement and prototype sewing in Red Lodge. We then worked with our US manufacturer to replicate every detail and feature. Once we reach our funding goal production will begin and finished Yellowstone fleeces will be ready for February delivery. Thank you for supporting our project!
Who we are
I am Hailey DeMarois and I like clothes to fit properly. I enjoy creating patterns for great-fitting clothes that people like to wear. I am a Montana native and appreciate mountains, rivers, and the sports associated with them. As a veteran fleece-wearer, I can attest that the Yellowstone fleece looks good and feels good.
I am Hans Howell and I co-founded Roscoe Outdoor after moving to Red Lodge, Montana. I enjoy climbing, skiing, and hiking in and around the Beartooth Mountains in South Central Montana. Past occupations include investment banking, carpentry, and geological consulting. Being involved in a company producing technical outerwear is a great opportunity to meld my love of the outdoors with my entrepreneurial drive. It's also a lot of work!
Risks and challenges
Producing technical garments in large quantities requires coordinating material deliveries from suppliers with manufacturing production schedules. We cannot forecast exactly how many Yellowstone fleeces, Roscoe t-shirts and hats will be ordered. Although we have enough materials on hand to satisfy a large number of orders, fulfilling some orders may require longer lead times as we work with suppliers to provide additional materials.
Producing our Yellowstone fleece requires working with numerous companies to provide materials and manufacturing. The loss of an important supplier or manufacturer could seriously impede our ability to complete our project. However, we we have chosen to work only with reputable suppliers and manufactures. We don’t believe there is a high probability of losing either a supplier or manufacturer directly involved in this project.
