About this project
Old Hills, Young Mountain
Old Hills, Young Mountain is a one of a kind of compilation. Instead of taking songs from 9 different artists who recorded in 9 different studios, we are gathering the greatest folk and country artists we know and bringing them into one studio/warehouse space in Kalamazoo, MI. Once there, they'll record live to old reel to reel equipment, capturing a classic, unreproducible sound unattainable through any other format of recording. Every step of this process has been considered and debated over to insure the most unique and integrity-filled project imaginable.

Joining the long list of musicians included are a great cast of engineers and producers from Double Phelix Studios:
Andy Catlin - Sound engineer, member of Lasso, The Go Rounds, Birdfingers, and curator of Double Phelix Studio.
Ben Lau - Sound engineer, member of Birdfingers, and curator of Double Phelix Studio.
Pat Carrol - Producer, sound engineer, and songwriter.
Jeremy Quentin - Producer, songwriter for Small Houses.
Over months and months of time, the musicians and crew will travel from as far as Denver, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, West Hurley, Iowa City, Richmond, and beyond just to grace Michigan with their awesome presence and talent.
Still, this very dated and particular method of recording a compilation is not only noteworthy in its approach, but expensive. We need money for recording tape, studio time, a special mixing board, and printing costs for the vinyl and cassettes. Every dollar you contribute will go directly to funding this project and supporting the local musicians that love to entertain you every day.
This project will be one that you listen to over and over again, as it promises to deliver a sound remarkable to any avid music fan.
