The Mines of Light is written by Arif Shah and illustrated by Oscar Chichoni. Each a world class talent in their own right. This is their passion project and we want to share it with you. We are blessed that our lives have been touched by inspiring women and men, enriched by adventure and, above all, guided by wise and hilarious friends. So we want to give back some with this project.
The expansive and beautiful story will live in your imagination forever: our innocent but determined hero and our bold but sensitive heroine encountering inspiring and challenging situations, full of wisdom, fun, sacrifice and not a small measure of peril.
The illustrations from the unique talent of Oscar Chichoni speak for themselves. A visual feast of technique, imagination and heart. They give The Mines of Light a depth not usually found in graphic novels. The illustrations captivate you, revealing new depth and detail upon every reading.
The Mines Of Light is a story of friendship. Lasting friendship of the rarest and most unlikely kind.
But the story doesn’t start out that way.
Like many lasting friendships, the heroes of this story believe that they should be mortal enemies. They believe this because their parents are just that... mortal enemies. You see, the young man is a Prince, from the great city of Daranor, and the young woman the daughter of the Chief of the Mountain Bandits. Two factions that have been at war with each other for a very long time.
When a natural catastrophe strikes and the Land is plunged into darkness, the only thing that will save the people, citizen and bandit alike, is the return of Light to the Land.
The Prince discovers an ancient treasure map. One that points the way to a place that almost everyone believes is an ancient fantasy... the mines of light. He decides to set out alone on a journey that will return the Light to the Land and save ALL the people.
But... the mischievous bandit Princess steals the map and turns it over to her father, the Bandit Chief.
And so an adventure begins that takes us through epic and mysterious lands, through heartbreak and humor, through joy and despair, towards an exciting finale.
The Mines of Light is a treasure map, filled with engaging layers for readers of all ages. A classic and an original story all in one. Captivating the imagination of the whole family.
With your help, we're going to release the first series as an illustrated book trilogy. Your help will be used to bring the story to life by completing the writing and illustration of the first three books.
As you can see, the task has already begun, but we need your support to bring this story out from the shadows and into the Light. Something that will benefit citizens and bandits alike. We could all use a little Light in our lives.BOOK DELIVERY DATES
Now that the initial funding goal has been reached, we figure it’s time to have some fun. So we will stage the release of each book as it finished. No need to wait until July 2015 to receive all three at once. We’ll keep you up to date on the first release date as things progress.
After reviewing the current raise, and the time left in the campaign, we have determined that the best stretch goal is to dedicate all funds raised between now and the end of the Kickstarter campaign to creating and developing the fourth book in the series. These are development funds. The more books in the series that are completed, the more leverage we have in making a distribution deal with a major company. The fourth book, when published, will be delivered as part of all reward levels of $10 or more for this campaign. In other words, if you pledged $10 dollars or more to support the trilogy, you will also receive: The 4th book in the series- free of charge!!! This is our way of thanking you for 'believing in' and 'supporting' this project.
Risks and challenges
Creating the layers in the storyline and reflecting those layers in the illustrations is a unique challenge in and of itself. Add to that the seamless mix of classical and wholly contemporary storytelling, and the stakes get exponentially higher.
Creative and artistic execution at a very high level are always a risk. But the rewards of such efforts are also enormous. Especially when they strike a positive and responsive chord deep in the psyche of the reader.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
