As you walk in the door at Ezra's Counterbalance Cafe you feel that you are stepping into an artistic friend's cozy living room. Ezra's is a place for lovers of art, artists and those who love good homemade food. Our recipes are from our family collection that have been worked on and perfected over many years.
Our cafe is located in Seattle's historic Queen Anne neighborhood and in keeping with the economic times our cafe is a small comfortable place that seats about 40 with friendly service and reasonable pricing. Our motto is Morning, Noon and Night-time too.
The building that we have chosen is in need of restoration to turn it into the cafe that we want you to enjoy. The building is vintage brick and is currently in need of a lot of artistic help and repair. The bones of this building are good and the location is foremost. We will be painting, re-doing the flooring surfaces and installing new lighting as well as constructing our seating areas and new kitchen.
The Counterbalance was a street car in the early part of the last century that was a part of the history here in Queen Anne. The hill is one of the steepest here in Seattle (think San Francisco). Although the Counterbalance has been gone for years, the location that we are thinking of is where the Counterbalance began. Here is a link if you would like to read a little about the Counterbalance in early Seattle history.
Ezra's showcases not only creative home made food but features local art as a part of our decor. We invite local artists to display their work in our rotating art gallery or perform in our open mic night to support and develop local art in all medias. Great lighting, comfortable seating, local art as decor, live music and tasty bites await you just up the street.
Ezra's Counterbalance Cafe is owned by Ezra Thomson and managed by members of the Thomson family. We are a hard working arts oriented family with a professional ballet dancer, an interior designer, a cook and special occasion coordinator and a massage therapist as integral parts of our family. Art has been and always will be how our family makes it's living.
Ezra: I am a professional ballet dancer with the Pacific Northwest Ballet. My art is very important to me. I work hard everyday to maintain my artistic view point. I am also a choreographer. Music is also an important part of my life and it speaks to me whether I am dancing, choreographing or playing guitar. I am still perfecting my art as a dancer and I intend to further my career as I have high goals for my ballet life. I am lending my name and ideas to this cafe at the present so that I might help others show their art to the community as I am doing now. I am the driving force behind this project.
Tracy: I have always enjoyed the artistic side of food. I've enjoyed cooking for friends and having them sample my creations. Early in our married life my husband Jeff and I catered large parties and weddings to support ourselves. Working in Ezra's Counterbalance Cafe as head cook will give me the opportunity to cook for a varied crowd of people and for them to love what I have created. This is something I have always wanted to do. I admire many different food writers and cookbook writers. I have been working for many years perfecting my craft as a baker and a chef. Now it is my turn to shine for you.
Jeff: I enjoy being creative. I am comfortable being in charge of a large home project or a big event. I have a great eye to look ahead, problem solve and see the finished outcome. I have many wonderful clients that I have worked with on some amazing projects. These work experiences have helped shape my eye for design. I am ready to make Ezra's Counterbalance Cafe into the place he has in mind. Ezra envisions a friendly, warm ambience with an artsy twist and I will make sure that becomes a reality. I have worked as a server in a high end restaurant and I plan to help set the bar high as far as the level of service people enjoy in our cafe. I cannot wait to present to you Ezra's Counterbalance Cafe.
Abby: As part of this amazing artistic family I have always loved
dance and theatre, but I have moved on to perfect my skills in another artistic area: massage thearapy. I use my hands to artfully craft wellness. I also enjoy making people feel at home and so I will be helping my family create a comfortable place for you to come and enjoy food, art and music.
Our food is a gourmet delight and has been tested by all of our friends and family at every occasion life has to offer. We invite you to join us in this endeavor. Sit back, relax and enjoy food and art with us as together we create a comfortable refuge here in the beautiful Emerald City. We sincerely appreciate your contributions to this project.
This is the Thomson Family Crest with a few twists. One of our preliminary designs for a logo on the door of our new cafe.
