The Wiz • Sit & Spin Productions' New Student Week Show • Fall 2012
EVERYBODY REJOICE! • A soulful retelling of L. Frank Baum's classic Wizard of Oz tale, our production of Charlie Smalls and William F. Brown's The Wiz will bring this story's universal themes to a new audience as a fast, loud, pop-culture infused, multi-cultural collage!
CAN'T YOU FEEL A BRAND NEW DAY? • Though the show has historically featured an all-black cast, director-choreographer John Allman ('13) and producer Austin James ('13) are excited to use The Wiz as an opportunity to remind Northwestern of the power of inclusion. In the years since the show's Tony Award-winning Broadway debut in 1975, "pop culture has become a true melting pot: hip-hop, salsa and techno are [...] part of everyone's beat, and the need to face an uncertain future fearlessly is shared by all" (Variety).
With an exceptionally talented cast and production team whose diversity truly reflects that of Northwestern's student body as a whole, we can't wait to blow the roof off of Shanley Pavilion this fall. Sit & Spin Productions' annual new student week show is the first student theatre production new freshmen see upon arriving at Northwestern, and we couldn't be more thrilled to introduce them to NU's unparalleled theatre community with our production of The Wiz!
However, beforeThe Wiz can open, we have scripts and music to copy, sets, costumes, and props to create, and lighting and sound equipment to rent. Northwestern's student theatre organizations, Sit & Spin included, are completely student-run and funded, and therefore rely heavily on financial support from family, friends, colleagues, and organizations.
To make The Wiz happen, we need your help! Send us a donation here – no amount is too small – or buy an ad in our program, congratulating a cast member or promoting your organization. Every dollar counts and goes directly to making our dreams for this production of The Wiz into reality!
