My name is Erin Hanson and I am a impressionistic landscape painter. I seek landscapes where natural beauty is abundant, breathtaking, and wondrous. A few years ago I found and have since extensively painted a place that is absolutely drenched in it... California Wine Country.
I am seeking your assistance in generating funds sufficient to compile, design and print a true museum-quality coffee table book of my paintings. All paintings will depict the intense natural beauty of California Wine Country.
I separated this project description into four parts so you can easily scroll up and down to the parts that matter to you most.
BACKGROUND - CALIFORNIA WINE COUNTRY
It has mountains, valleys, plains, coastlines, and hillsides. It evokes peace and tranquility with gentle pastures and nestled countryside. It conjures raw emotion with hard-breaking waves and majestic vistas. It has every shade of green imaginable, plus golden yellow, red, purple, and turquoise - and every hybrid in between. It has oak trees, wildflowers, and blooming chaparral. It is California wine country, with landscapes as varied as the state itself. The Monterey Peninsula boasts the most amazing cypress trees, and as you near the Mojave, you're in the only place you'll find the legendary Joshua tree.
About My Works & Inspiration
I paint outdoor landscapes and to best capture and convey great natural beauty I use the technique of "Open-Impressionism" - combining fewer and thicker brush strokes, and highlighting both texture and color saturation.
The thickness of my brush strokes preserves every tiny ridge in the paint left by the brush. This creates a powerful visual effect, a mosaic of color and texture, which pulls the eye along and coaxes it to explore every nook and cranny of the painting.
I feel compelled to add this: I have become increasingly aware that being alongside and gazing at images of natural beauty has an enormously positive effect on the psyche. It's something we all need to do more often.
So - whether you choose to back this project, and regardless of the level you back, take the time to better appreciate and experience the soothing positive effects of being in the presence of great natural beauty, whether it occurs immersively in the great outdoors, or more readily at home with your loved ones - on your walls, or on your coffee table.
PROJECT SPECIFICS AND BUDGET
ABOUT THE BOOK: The book's full title is Extraordinary Landscapes: California Wine Country. This coffee table book will be of museum quality, hard cover, with a 9 x 12 page size and horizontal orientation. The paper for the text will be high quality, minimum 157 gsm; the caseboard thickness will be a minimum of 3mm. I promise you that this book will look absolutely amazing on your coffee table!
Extraordinary Landscapes: California Wine Country will be approximately 176 pages long, and the Northern, Central, and Southern wine-growing regions will be well represented throughout. There will be 7 sections overall, each comprising a different landscape varietal theme, such as Mornings in Paradise, Curvaceous Coastlines, Rolling Meadows, and Changing Seasons. There will also be narratives at the beginning and end of each section - as I share my story and experiences within the context of presenting my art (and there are many stories worth sharing).
ABOUT THE BUDGET: The monies I seek to raise will allow me to achieve three goals. First, we will compile, script, and design the very special book as described above. Second, we will publish/print the book in sufficient quantities (including the limited edition Deluxe version) to be able to price it reasonably and not have to run expensive one-offs upon order. Third, we will prepare and create three Art and Wine exhibitions featuring works from the book, working closely with wineries from the three primary wine growing regions.
I am allocating $12,000 for all that is necessary to create, design, script, compile, print, receive, and fulfill orders for the book. I am allocating $5,000 for all that is necessary to stage the exhibitions (other monies are expected to fund from sales made at the exhibitions); and the balance will be used to cover Kickstarter fees, Amazon fees, misc fulfillment costs, and a small contingency.
If target funds are exceeded, I will likely tour the live exhibition of works from the book to additional California galleries and wineries; and I will add more definitive "stretch goals" after seeing how it progresses.
ABOUT THE REWARDS:
- I aimed to offer beauty at every reward level - even the screensaver will rotate between a dozen paintings, and it's at only $10.
- Each reward is personal - as I am so appreciative of the support. All backers will be thanked in the book, and all the books and calendars will be personally autographed and inscribed.
- The e-book at the $35 level offers a a way of presenting to you all the beauty and all the art.
- For only $100 (or $80 if you act quickly), you get the autographed and inscribed hard-copy museum-quality book, delivered to your door. You also get the screensaver, e-book, and a thank you gift card. I believe you'll find this of great value.
- To offer a personal experience in addition to my art - for the higher reward levels - which are available via gatherings and classes.
Risks and challenges
I believe I can say with certainty that there are no prevalent risks and challenges in completing the book and fulfilling rewards on a timely basis.
Each of the paintings are completed and once this project is funded we are ready to roll on the design and production.
The rewards I have chosen are timed out so that they can easily be delivered on time. There are also a number of galleries within California Wine Country that know me and my work, and have expressed interest in hosting such exhibitions.
I do love communicating about my art; I look forward to engaging backers and would-be backers on any subject related to it, whether it involves answers to questions, discussions of rewards, or even pure chats. I will be accessible and responsive to all.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
