VIP Pledge Levels
Make sure to review our VIP pledge levels. This is something new for us that we are able to offer thanks to the new venue. They include more swag and access to the VIP lounge all weekend long!
Past Guests & Attendees
We have been lucky to have not only great attendees over the years, but also quite a few special guests (Larry Elmore, Sam Flegal, Tony Darling, Stephanie Erb, Billy Tackett and Raining Neon, just to name a few). We asked several of them to film a short note about what they thought about CharCon. Many of those are included in the video above, but our buddy Jason Matthews also sent us the following.
Jason has been our guest twice (and hopefully working on a third time soon). He is an accomplished game designer, best known for co-designing Twilight Struggle, which spent over 7 years as the #1 rated game on Board Game Geek.
Some pictures from last year
We are super hyped to be in the beautiful Clay Center for our 2nd year. This is truly a spectacular venue, and they are great community partners and genuinely excited to have us as an event. Located in downtown Charleston, WV, this Art Museum, Discovery Center and Performance Hall offers us a variety of unique locations to host our various events. Must be seen to believe!
Artist Guest of Honor
We are thrilled to once again feature the fabulous Jeff Carlisle. Jeff was our guest in 2011 and he provided us with the following image for our t-shirts and program cover (NOT this year's art, from 2011):
Considering Jeff has done work for both Star Trek and Star Wars, including being a regular at the Star Wars Celebration event and routinely being chosen to create one of their limited edition prints only available at that show...we can't wait to see what he creates for us this year!
More about Jeff below and you can see his work here: Art of Jeff Carlisle
"A life-long Science Fiction and Fantasy fan, Jeff Carlisle's journey began with seeing the original Star Wars when he was four, watching classic Sci-Fi television as a child, reading classic science fiction and fantasy books in his teen years and playing lots of role-playing games and video games while in art school. The drawing and dreaming he has been doing his whole life is now his career, and over the last two decades he has designed or illustrated Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Indiana Jones, The ALIEN franchise, Spider-Man, The X-Men, Lord of the Rings, THE GUILD, Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder for various projects such as Books, Magazines, Web Comics, Role-Playing and Miniatures Games, Trading cards, Posters, Art Prints, Maps, Sketchcards, Webshows and Short Movies, a Video Game, and even Paper Airplanes--and many others.
Jeff is proud to have been able to contribute his small part to the dreams of others and hopes to continue for a long time. Jeff and his wife Lisa live in Ohio. Life is Good"
CharCon is an annual event run by the nonprofit West Virginia Hobby Gaming Association. Our goal is to bring families together in a fun environment, using games to help them find endless fun together. Games show kids a practical application for their learned skills from school, making them a great platform for them to have fun and learn at the same time. We also strive to bring an entertainment option into West Virginia for current and future gamers and geeks.
A huge thank you to everyone who has attended, volunteered, been on staff, exhibited, ran game's or anything in support of making CharCon a success over the past 12 years. Let's keep working to make things even better in the future!
Being the first year of our kickstarter, we really are just happy to offer our attendees the opportunity to register a little cheaper and pick up some swag, plus offer those who are so inclined an upgraded VIP experience.
Should we be lucky enough to hit our target and beyond, here are some stretch goals. If we somehow manage to meet these, more will be on the way.
-$2000 : UNLOCKED!!!! We will release the never before seen blooper footage from the film session by MAYCHEAL MINE, ESQ (definitely not Michael Mayne, artist).
-$3000 : UNLOCKED!!!! We will host a viewing of a movie from either the Star Wars or Star Trek franchise on Friday night at the Clay Center in the planetarium/Imax.
We will start working with the Clay Center to plan this movie night right away. Watch for details coming soon!
-$4000 : UNLOCKED!!!! Everyone who backed this campaign will have the opportunity to take a free green screen photo at CharCon 2018, which will then be inserted into a super cool background. Costumes encouraged! (Group pledges get group photos)
$5000 : UNLOCKED!!!! If we hit this stretch goal, we will host an acoustic music performance on Saturday night on the Founders Lounge balcony or in the lounge (based on weather). Attendees can relax, play games, enjoy beverages and listen to some sweet tunes.
$6000 : At this stretch goal, everyone who backed any admission level of the Kickstarter will receive an additional item (TBD) of swag featuring the CharCon logo.
Risks and challenges
CharCon has been happening for over a decade, so when you back, you can do so knowing that come July we will be at the Clay Center hosting the show. This campaign simply adds some new options for attendees who are interested in an enhanced experience and we have been careful to balance those in a way that we will have no trouble delivering them. So please feel confident as you consider backing our campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
