VIP Pledge Levels
Make sure to review our VIP pledge levels. They were new to us via Kickstarter last year and were a big success. They include more swag and access to the VIP lounge all weekend long! These pledge levels are limited in number, so don't hesitate if you are thinking about one! Please note we also added 2 unique VIP pledge levels! We will shift the number of pledges around as needed, but the overall total number of VIP admissions available is limited.
Don't see the pledge you need? Feel free to message us and we will do our best to help you out!
To do an Add-On:
- Click on the pledge level that you would like.
- Manually increase the pledge to the correct amount for what you want, adding the cost of the pledge and your add-ons together.
- There is no need to message or post a comment. We will collect this information in the survey.
- If you decide to add-on later, simply adjust your pledge level to the correct amount.
We are super hyped to be in the beautiful Clay Center for our 3rd year. This is truly a spectacular venue, and they are great community partners and genuinely excited to have us as an event. Located in downtown Charleston, WV, this art museum, discovery center, and performance hall offers us a variety of unique locations to host our various events. Must be seen to believe!
Charles Urbach - Artist Guest of Honor
We have been trying to coordinate having this year's artist as our GoH for a few years and this year it finally worked out! After attending several times as an Exhibitor, this year Charles Urbach will be our featured Guest of Honor! We can't wait to see what the artwork he does for our cover and t-shirts! Here is a little information about his background:
Charles Urbach is a writer and colored pencil artist with more than two decades of work in design, publishing, and illustration. His subjects, like the techniques employed in its making, are a blend of ancient and modern. His work explores fantasy, science fiction, young adult, horror, and surrealistic imagery by drawing on a rich tradition of historical, spiritual, literary, and mythological sources.
Charles' published work includes hundreds of illustrations for the tabletop gaming industry, book covers for many independent publishing projects, cover/branding art for major gaming conventions including Origins Game Fair and Gary Con, and graphic design/concept work for the corporate world. Projects have included miniatures designs for Wizkids' Heroclix, illustrations for "Magic: The Gathering," “Star Wars,” "Legend of the Five Rings," and artwork for many other games and properties including “Esper Genesis,” “Das Schwarze Auge,” “Infinite City," “Doomtown Reloaded,” "Noble Treachery," "A Game of Thrones," "Call of Cthulhu," "Lord of the Rings," and a multitude of others. Clients have included Wizards of the Coast, NECA, Sony Online, AT&T and many other game publishers and independent clients. Among his accomplishments, he is a 2018 Chesley Award winner and an award winner at Gen Con, Dragon Con, ConVergence, Origins Game Fair, Jordan Con, PhilCon, and MarCon. Charles is a frequent Guest of Honor, panelist, and participant at conventions and gaming tournaments throughout North America and Europe.
Jason Matthews - Game Designer Guest
Last year Jason was kind enough to record a video for our Kickstarter, recalling his time and experiences at CharCon. This year we are lucky enough to have him as a guest again! For your viewing pleasure, here is the video from last year. (*Note, we are not sure what he is talking about regarding being abandoned...)
CharCon is an annual event run by the nonprofit West Virginia Hobby Gaming Association. Our goal is to bring families together in a fun environment, using games to help them find endless fun together. Games show kids a practical application for their learned skills from school, making them a great platform for them to have fun and learn at the same time. We also strive to bring an entertainment option into West Virginia for current and future gamers and geeks.
A huge thank you to everyone who has attended, volunteered, been on staff, exhibited, ran games or anything in support of making CharCon a success over the past 13 years. Let's keep working to make things even better in the future!
Going into our second year doing a Kickstarter, we are excited to continue offering VIP benefits and swag for all backers, while enhancing those perks from last year.
Should we be lucky enough to exceed our target, here are some stretch goals. If we meet all these, more will be on the way.
UNLOCKED! $3500 - We will edit and release a sure-to-be entertaining behind the scenes and outtakes video from the filming of this year's Kickstarter video. Hilarity ensues...
UNLOCKED! $4000 - We will host a viewing of one of the films from the Mad Max Franchise (pending availability) on Friday night at the Clay Center in the (newly renovated and even better than last year) planetarium/Imax.
UNLOCKED! $5000 - The CharCast crew will host a live performance, including audience participation, guests and who knows what else...all right on the stage of the Clay Center.
UNLOCKED! $6000 - We will add an acoustical musical performer for one or both nights in the Founders Lounge
UNLOCKED! $8000 - All Kickstarter backers will receive one (1) free Friday visitors pass that they can use to bring a friend, family member, significant other, etc. to the show AND to the movie Friday night! If your pledge covers 2 people, you will get 2. (Group backers will receive 1 total).
Risks and challenges
CharCon has been happening for over a decade, so when you back, you can do so knowing that come July we will be at the Clay Center hosting the show. This campaign simply adds some new options for attendees who are interested in an enhanced experience and we have been careful to balance those in a way that we will have no trouble delivering them. So please feel confident as you consider backing our campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
