Two summers ago we began making this music as Honey Locust and decided to take it as far as we could. We put our educations on hold, started writing, started practicing, got a van, practiced more, learned to record, released an EP, practiced some more, and figured ourselves out by playing over 50 shows with several unique ensembles in Nashville and the midwestern US in 2012. We have since spent the last few months hidden away like cicadas underground, carefully writing the songs that will make up our first full length album, The Great Southern Brood. This project is bigger than anything we have done before and has absolutely consumed us.
Now we need a little financial help in order to properly record and release this album.
Your money will go towards: Studio time, paying orchestral musicians, mixing, mastering, and the physical production of the album on vinyl. Any money that we reach beyond our goal will go towards promotion and touring.
Some parts of the album we are currently recording ourselves at home and the rest will be done in a proper studio. We are now preparing the musical arrangements for the songs and will be thoroughly composing orchestral strings and horns, which we will be a crucial element of the album's feeling.
We put everything we have into these songs and we will be proud when they emerge from their exoskeletons and swarm out into the wild world. With your contribution we can make this album the best it can be and release it on vinyl so that it may be heard in finest of audio formats.
All contributions will be rewarded with an immediate download of a 4 song Live EP from a show we did in December with a special 8 piece ensemble. Three of these songs will be recorded for the album.
We uploaded one called "Wilderness" here for your sampling pleasure:
We appreciate your support more than you could possibly fathom.
Risks and challenges
We are planning to release the album early this summer and will be giving it 100% focus until it is done, but on that note, it will be done when its done. Everything is currently on track but we won't release this until we are completely happy with it so delays are possible. We will keep all our backers updated on our progress.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
