About this project
Roller Girls & A Werewolf
Bonnie N. Collide, Nine to Five is a fun, jubilant comic following the adventures of its heroine Bonnie. Bonnie's a cubicle worker by day and a hip-checking roller girl by night - but does she ever take off her skates and try to blend in with everyone else? NO WAY! Bonnie skates her way through work stresses, intolerant coworkers, dating on and off the track, and allll sorts of derby drama while keeping her spirit intact. Joined by her gay werewolf coworker Herb, shy boyfriend Stuart, BFF Mimi Madness, timid derby sis Fresh Meat Fran, and judge-y coworkers Barb and Sherry, Bonnie tackles everything in her life with equal gusto.
Bonnie started as a webcomic in 2008 and has since attracted roller derby players, fans, and comic readers alike to follow along with in her boisterous journeys (it's been mentioned in BUST magazine online, and Five on Five magazine in print!) Initially self-published in 10-page floppy issues, this will be the first time a WHOLE BUNCH of strips will appear altogether in one big, lovely book! The book will collect the first 324 strips of the series, along with 14 new chapter illustrations and 16 pages of extras into 192 pages of book, including Bonnie's roller derby league teams, character sketches, a love letter to derby, and whatever other fun can be jammed in there.
Color in the Characters!
ALSO, on several of the reward levels you can receive the Bonnie coloring book, featuring 12 pages of characters from the comic for you to decorate with their team colors OR yours - whatever you decide! Plus there's a fun section for you to try to draw tattoos on them. You can't have roller derby with all the tattoo fun!
Are you a Roller Girl?
A few years back I put a call out to all the REAL roller gals and roller dudes out there to send me their stories, and they all ended up filling out spots on each of my four imaginary derby teams! If you'd like a derby portrait of you OR a team portrait, OR a cameo in the comic - I want to hear from you! The more people involved and aware of the magical magical sport that is roller derby, the better!
Where's my money going?
Where is the moolah going? Well basically it breaks down like this:
- $3000 - BOOOOOKS!
- $1875 - Shipping for those books!
- $1000 - Miscellaneous fees/shipping/packaging/cover the butt issues!
We've made it so far already!! I'll post prettified versions of these goals soon, but here are a few to get us goin':
- $6500 - Crayons & Bookmarks! Anyone who's selected a book reward will get a bookmark, and anyone who's selected a coloring book will get crayons!
- $7000 - The book will now be 200 pages (instead of 192) and will feature an 8-page COLOR SECTION, wooo!
- $7500 - Anyone getting wallpaper/PDF will get a digital download of a song about positive body diversity by Miss Cacie!
- $8000 - The book will get FANCY hardcover OR softcover treatment (meaning french flaps)!
Risks and challenges
The GOOD news is, most of the book is already done - huzzah! The only challenge at this point will be shipping times and schedules, but HOPEFULLY I've put in enough paranoid padding that there won't be any missed deadlines.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
