Fans and followers of the amazing Kim Walnes, heroine to so many of us, believe a short documentary NEEDS to be made about her extraordinary life. And it's not just a 'horsie story'. This has something for everyone - edge-of-seat excitement with death-defying sport scenes from World Championship and Olympic level events, positive and uplifting/thought-provoking interviews about how we might want to better experience our own lives, a taste of what it's like to rub elbows with Hollywood film-makers, inspiration for those who have dealt with the same kind of pain Kim has had - both with her near-fatal car crash and the rehab to build up her broken body, as well as what most of us would see as insurmountable grief and despair from the shocking murder of her only daughter. So many of us have gone through less dramatic peaks and valleys, and yet handle the experiences badly, but Kim is always looking ahead and remaining centered, true to herself and open and humble when reaching out to help others.
Note re:Canadian funds - Stage One organizer Julie is Canadian, (and many of Kim's fans are all around the world, not just in the USA!) the monies we're collecting are in Canadian dollars. So in actuality, we need to raise only $7,000 usd for Stage One. Also, know that Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. Please feel free to just offer what you can - even $1.00 or $5.00. However, there are rewards offered (see right side) for donations of $25.00 and more. AND, by the rules of Kickstarter, if we don't raise the $7,000. in a month for this, "Stage One" (meant for travel costs for the film-makers and Kim or other interviewees, as well as paying for initial TIME for film-makers) then NO monies are exchanged, nor fees paid to Kickstarter. It's fine to raise MORE than our goal, just not less! So let's make sure we get this project 'off the ground and leaping that first big wide oxer!'
There's some great and exciting film footage of Kim (in orange shirt) and The Gray Goose in this excerpt from David Hoffman's Riding for America (available on Amazon):
The below captioned slideshow is meant especially for those who know little or nothing about the extraordinary Kim Walnes at this point. It was thrown together by organizer Julie (me), just for this Stage One of the Kickstart campaign. I am obviously NOT an audio/visual technician, nor aspiring to be one! Please see our committed filmmakers' amazing highly professional work online for GREAT film footage and narration. To find out MORE about the three of US (Tory, Sybil and me) just click on the little circle at the top with a grey horse looking at a film camera - that's one of Tory's photos, and we think it's perfect for our profile pic! You'll find more info. and links about us there. But if you want more about KIM, KIM, KIM!, do watch this slideshow. Keep scrolling down after this large space- (Kickstarter leaves blank space for graphic-link).
Risks and challenges
While Stage One is just the beginning phase of The Mother Goose Project, it feels good to have on board an enthusiastic and very experienced pair of equine professionals in both film-maker/photographer Sybil Miller and award-winning film editor and videographer Tory Kelly (Equine Video Productions) . You can google either of them and find out more about their many creative works. They will be steering this project from now on, but there may be times when we need help from Kim's fans and followers, both new and old. So stay tuned for where you might be able to step in to assist! It may take several years to get this film 'in the can', but please keep thinking of it, keep talking about it, and keep the good vibrations out there about it!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
