Spawn and jump, spawn and bump... Colonize monkeys, increase your numbers and outsmart your opponents. But beware at every move, because nobody likes nitpicking!
There are 3 possible ways to win Itchy Monkey
You need to have a colony (3 worker lice)...
...on 5 different species of monkeys, 4 of the same, or 3 gorillas.
Each turn consists of 2 phases
Phase 1 Spawn
Add one or more worker lice to a monkey that contains at least one of your lice.
Phase 2 Move
Choose one of these options:
① Jump: move one of your lice to a directly adjacent monkey.
② Bump: move a monkey any number of spaces in a horizontal or vertical direction. If it collides, move any number of lice to the bumped monkey.
③ Nitpicking: remove all lice from a monkey on which an opponent has 5 or more worker lice.
Itchy Monkey comes with a double-sided game board for different starting positions according to the number of players.
There's endless variation by playing with Monkey abilities.

Expansion now available: License to Kill (€5)
This expansion will come in its own small tuck-box, and you can get it for just €5! If you'd like to get License to Kill you can simply add the amount to your pledge and confirm in the pledge manager after the campaign. No extra shipping will be charged.
Each player receives 3 extra "spy lice". These spies can infiltrate monkeys which already have lice of an opponent! The spies are able to move the monkey, and will also count towards the number of worker lice on that monkey (beware of that nitpicking!). This adds a whole new dimension to the game, making you rethink your old strategies. Also, we'll add a completely new game mode in which you're playing as a species of monkeys, trying to get rid of the lice!
With it's extensive development and play-testing, high quality components, and beautiful artwork, we believe there's little to improve on Itchy Monkey with (numerous) stretch goals. Our funding goal is our actual goal. We don't believe in using stretch goals to help the game reach it's full potential. No-nonsense!
So the goals we have prepared won't improve the game, but will improve your experience!
NOTE: All lice pieces will have an octagonal shape. This makes the pieces a lot easier to grip and move.
Retailers should be able to receive the same Kickstarter extras as other backers. That means retailers will also get an extra discount. If you're an interested retailer, pledge at the €1 level and contact us at email@example.com during the campaign. We'll provide you with all the necessary information.
To make sure Itchy Monkey arrives at your doorstep safely, we will use a great fulfillment partner. All shipping fees are standard, and based on the actual fee we will need to pay our fulfillment partner. This also means we can ship EU and US-friendly to our backers.
The shipping fees will be charged after the campaign through our pledge manager Backerkit, another renowned company.
To reduce shipping costs for backers in Germany, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands, we will take care of the logistics in these countries ourselves. For an overview of the prices see below.
You can reduce shipping costs by making a group pledge!
Here's an overview of a few examples for sending 5 games. For an accurate price for your country or more information, please send us a message or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Just like with our previous Kickstarter it is possible to pick up your game at one of the many conventions we're attending, including Essen SPIEL 2018.
It's now possible to ship to Denmark via a group pledge. The designer (Allan, see below) will facilitate this himself, with the help of a boardgame cafe in the area of Århus. Backers will be able to pick up the games on specific dates and will share the shipping costs. This option will be available through the pledge manager after the campaign. The reduced shipping costs will be charged at that time as well.
Black Box Adventures is an indie tabletop games developer and publisher from the Netherlands. We strive to bring you games with our three core values in mind:
QUALITY: what you get is a high quality product worth your time, as we want to bring you more than some cards and dice in a box. Yes, we are a business, and our business is to make you happy.
ORIGINALITY: Zombies vs Cthulhu? Booooring!! We strive to think outside of the box and make tabletop games with unique twists and themes. Lice colonising monkeys... now we're talking.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE: we only publish games that have our full support, but we’re all just ordinary people. We like to work with our community so please let us know what you think!
Itchy Monkey: a Battle of Lice is the brainchild of Allan Kirkeby. For the art we partnered up with Maarten de Schrijver, the designer and illustrator of "Frutti di Mare: Veni, Vidi, Antipasti!". Maarten is a 2D and 3D designer, which you'll quickly recognize from the beautifully designed artwork and animation. When Allan presented his game to us the original game mechanics and theme struck us immediately. After more play testing and some adjustments Itchy Monkey was ready to be launched on Kickstarter.
Meet the game designer: Allan Kirkeby
I’ve always loved playing and making games. I made my first board game as a kid. In my teens I played tabletop miniature games, and designed campaign-worlds as a D&D game master. I got my first computer and started playing games, but quickly realized that making games with a computer was even more fun. Since then I’ve designed and lead the development of a lot of computer games. Today I spend my daytime as an advisor and teacher for start-up computer game companies, and my evenings and weekends designing, building and playing board games.
Risks and challenges
With two successfully funded and fulfilled projects, Black Box Adventures is ready for more. Although every project comes with risks, we've done our best to minimize them. This isn't our first project, we've got a great track record to give our backers confidence.
The game, artwork and design are ready to be printed. We received quotes from multiple manufacturers, both domestic as well as foreign. To get the high quality we want, we've chosen one of the best production facilities available. The manufacturer will print and assemble the games. None of the components need to come from China, so there won't be any possible delays/problems that are associated with overseas freight shipping.
Shipping is always a risk, especially when shipping international orders. Because the game is produced in the EU, EU-backers won't need to worry about extra customs charges. Like before, we're using a highly renowned fulfillment partner for an ultra smooth fulfilment process.
According to the manufacturer the game will be ready before Essen SPIEL 2018, however some events may be out of our or their reach. If for some unforeseen circumstances we won't be able to deliver the product at Essen SPIEL 2018, we will have to arrange a pickup at another convention or charge shipping costs.
Lastly, although we are working very hard to expand our range of games, we put originality before anything else. Every game we publish must be an original masterpiece drooling in flavor on its own. We will do everything in our power to achieve this goal. Like our previous games, we will listen to the backers. Together we can make the best out of Itchy Monkey!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
