LEDbits is an elegant toolkit that enables you to create your personal LED lamps, in easy plug-and-play style. Enjoy the many benefits of advanced High Power LED lighting, without the technological hassle. Whether you are an experienced designer or a beginning creator, LEDbits is made with you in mind. Effortlessly mix and match until you find the perfect light for you.
The LEDbits modules are designed to be worry-free. We have spent months making them as simple as possible. They quickly and effortlessly snap together, and are easily swapped out. It all boils down to three simple steps.
Step 1: Choose your light.
Making a night light? Choose a LED module that radiates cozy warm white light. Building a lamp for the office? Go with a bright, uplifting cold white. Or take the blue module and add some colour to your light.
Step 2: Shape your beam
Combine the LED module with a lens that bundles it into a spot, or go with a nice diffuse effect. Try out as many as you want, as they connect magnetically to the LED module.
Step 3: Hook up your controls
Hook up a toggle switch, a rotary knob, capacitive touch or go crazy and program your own with Arduino®. It’s as easy as connecting one of the plug-and-play LEDbits control modules.
The beautiful modules integrate seamlessly in your design. Experience the ease of the wide variety of fixing possibilities designed into the modules and the supplied fasteners.
A house is not a home without a lamp. These lamps are made with LEDbits and individually crafted to reflect your personality.
Want to create your personal lamp without getting your hands too dirty? Want to surprise someone with an original personal gift? Go for LEDbits YOU. You give us a name, word or phrase, and we will make you a beautiful personalised lamp around it. Of course powered by LEDbits.
Designer Alex Jurtan was so enthusiastic about LEDbits that he made a fantastic modular lamp. We love it and think you will too. The LEDbits RMX can be remixed into 4 different lamps: A table lamp, a presentation lamp, a clip-on lamp and a wall lamp. Maybe you’ll invent a 5th function! Remix your lamp to your changing needs.
Back us today and receive a LEDbits toolkit suited exactly to your needs. They come in three sizes, or get the Kickstarter Exclusive Gold Edition.
All toolkits contain the square LEDbits. If we reach the stretch goal of €35.000, every backer will have the opportunity to choose between square or round bits.
What will you make?
If we reach our stretch goal of €35.000, we can afford the tooling for large-scale production of a second type of LEDbit. Everyone backing one of the LEDbits toolkits will have the opportunity of choosing between a kit filled with round or square LED modules and matching lenses in the post-campaign survey.
Receive a set of 6 corck LEDbits coasters personalised with your own set of names, words or phrases on it. Great for yourself or as a gift!
You are the reason we designed LEDbits modules with great care. They are are crafted from high quality anodised aluminium, milled with extreme accuracy. This ensures the right technical qualities, like optimal heat management, but it also makes them look like little gems that give you light. All LED components are top of the bill so you get lots of beautiful light (150 lumen & 85+ CRI, if you are into numbers)
We made sure that the control modules look clear and simple, so that there is no doubt of how they should be used. And hey, we like them to look good, even when built into your lamps! In every module design, we took plug-and-play seriously. Connectors simply can not be attached the wrong way. All in all, we aimed high in combining ease of use, looks and functionality.
Enjoy LEDbits and let your creativity flow freely!
We have been working on LEDbits non-stop for close to two years. After countless hours of prototyping refining the designs, we are finally ready to launch. We have contracts with suppliers and manufacturers and are ready to go. All we need now is to push the big red button that says 'Go!'.
A small overview of what has happened over the course of the developments and, of course, when you will be able to receive your LEDbits!
The faces of the people that work hard every day (and sometimes night) in order to make LEDbits a reality.
...and many, many more amazing people who contributed countless hours working with LEDbits, reviewing prototypes and giving feedback and/or advice.
At LEDbits, we love creativity. We love to empower the people we design for. Because, when people put their own creativity into their everyday environment, this environment becomes more meaningful and valuable. Why would we let manufacturers solely decide what the everyday products in our home look like? Let’s create our own stories.
In order to achieve this, we are rethinking the way to look at personalisation in lighting products. We create modular designs that remove technology burdens and are open to any make skills you may have: be it paper cutting, wood working, laser cutting, programming, 3D printing. Anything goes.
We created LEDbits: an elegant and modular toolkit that enables you to create lamps that will win a place in both your home and your heart.
Risks and challenges
Any product production process brings risks and challenges. We have experience in our team with bringing products to the international market, and that is exactly why we are restraining from promising too quick delivery. Delay can be caused by very insignificant things, like a component being out of stock or a small miscommunication with a supplier.
The way we’ve been tackling the challenges of production is by involving production partners already in early stages of development. Some of our prototypes are actually already made by the manufacturer that we’re planning to do final production with. That way we already built a good common understanding of the product. Our current prototypes are pretty close to the final products, which also gives confidence. But again, we know that surprises always occur. What we can do when something hits the fan, is to let you know quickly and show how we work on a solution.
A point of constant attention is certification. Any commercial product must adhere to certain technical criteria to be allowed on the market. And rightly so. We have experience with this, and have been consulting experts in this field. We have already incorporated their feedback into our designs. Certification however needs constant attention, since any small design change may affect compliance.
Another risk is huge success. This might sound strange, but producing a million LEDbits would take significantly more time than a couple of thousand LEDbits. We are by the way really not opposed to huge success at all :).
Last but not least: We are not perfect, so we make mistakes every now and then. We are committed to creating the best product we can for you, and hope you’ll forgive an occasional misstep from our side. On the upside, it might also have its charm: We’ll keep you posted and give you the opportunity to sit back, relax and see us sweat to fix it.
