Roots of Mali is a standalone game and 100% compatible with its predecessor Light of Dragons. Tribes from both games can be combined for new challenges and even greater replayability. Each tribe consists of 6 different creatures with unique abilities and distinct power levels. Tribes from both editions can easily be distinguished by the color of their representative dice.
If you are retailer and want to order larger quantities please get in touch for an individual offer. Group pledges welcome.
In addition to these stretch goals we have a community stretch goal that will be unlocked as soon as a certain number of Victory Points is reached.
Each player takes on the role of the forest tribe in the fight for the sole domination of the Warlands. Through tactical use and clever movement of your own army you can outwit and defeat opposing creatures. In this confrontional game the players have several standard actions. A tribe contains six creatures of various power levels and individual skills. By vanquishing an opposing creature you gain victory points equal to the creature‘s power level. The first player to collect 10 victory points wins. This is achieved by tactically moving creatures and exercising their special powers to outwit your opponent, eliminating his character dice from the board, the Warring Lands.

1. Bringing Roots of Mali to Life.
Suncoregames is a small publisher, founded by us, Adrian and Bujar, designers of the games Light of Dragons and Roots of Mali. When we released Light of Dragons we used our own private money to produce the first batch of games and sold these during SPIEL in Essen. This was great to build up a solid fan base for the line in Central Europe. With Roots of Mali we want to scale things, reach a larger audience and reach out to people all over the world, not just in Europe. Since we don't have a distributor, Kickstarter is the perfect platform to do do that. With the help of Kickstarter we can bring Roots of Mali to you, from gamers to gamers. We need the power of Kickstarter to produce the game. No Kickstarter no Roots of Mali, it is as simple as that.
We are offering Roots of Mali and Light of Dragons for a discounted price on Kickstarter to get all early adopters started with a benefit. If we reach out funding goal and thus make the games, they will be sold at a higher price during conventions and on our website. Furthermore shipping is also reduced during the campaign and customs-friendly. Rewards of the campaign will be shipped by a fulfilment company from within several areas such as the EU, USA, Canada. We are not able to provide this service outside of Kickstarter because we are living in Switzerland from where we usually ship.
3. Strech Goals
The game as such is complete and a full product from the very moment we reach our funding goal. But we have had fun ideas how to bring in some game changers, additional challenges and variants. These will be added as Stretch Goals that add even more variety and replayability. With your contribution you will alter the outcome of the final product.
4. Exclusive Content
At least one of the stretch goals will be exclusive to Kickstarter backers. What exactly does that mean? We are not offering these exclusives at a later date. We won't sell them separately. Their production will be limited to the number of backers. However, any remainders due to set production numbers might be used as promo during conventions. On a side note: We are not making game relevant content exclusive, because we think that this is not fair to the gaming community.
5. The Community
The main reason why Kickstarter is great is the awesome community. We are avid backers ourselves and have joined many campaign. Check our bio for more information on that. We want a fun campaign with nice people to meet and chat with. This is almost as good as meeting people at a convention or sitting at a table for a game with friends. So last but not least we have chosen Kickstarter because we are part of the community ever since and because of you.
We are Bujar and Adrian and together we are Suncoregames – a young and innovative team from Switzerland that creates board games. We have started with our first board game design, Light of Dragons, in 2015. Our intention is to create more games with new ideas, and new mechanisms that feature a lot of strategy while still being easy to access and play.
For the campaign we have teamed up with Daniel from Board Game Circus who is leading the marketing department and backer communication.
The beautiful thematic illustrations and graphic work on the dice and game board were done by Malte J. Zirbel. He is a very talented artists and we are grateful to have him with us. You can see some of his work in the following portfolio: www.artstation.com/artist/maltezirbel
Risks and challenges
Publishing a board game is a complicated process which is prone to many mistakes. During the past month we have worked hard to prepare this campaign and manufacturing of the product. The rules are final and translated, the illustrations for the game as you see it are all done, the print-layout for the board is done and the production quote from our manufacturer is in hand and ready to be initiated.
Roots of Mali is our second game. It will be produced by the same manufacturer and in the same quality as Light of Dragons, thus we are pretty confident that everything will run smoothly. Light of Dragons is of stunning quality. For this campaign we have made a proper calculation, partnered with experienced shipping companies and teamed up with Daniel from Board Game Circus who is supporting us in marketing and promotion.
If we reach stretch goals, our illustrator will need some extra time to work on these. Finally the rule books are undergoing professional layout and editing after the campaign. More stretch goals will eventually delay production.
Pre-production and production usually takes a while and unforeseen events may occur. Such as color corrections that have to be done or sending print-proofs and material samples back and forth until everything is exactly the way we want it. We want everything to be perfect before we start production. If anything of this happens it might delay production.
Delivering goods around the globe is no easy task but we have teamed up with fulfillment companies with an expertise in board game deliveries. Once these companies have the manufactured products in their warehouse they will start shipping these rewards to you. In the past we have seen deliveries being delayed due to harbor strikes, plane strikes, warehouse strikes or troubles with customs at the border. Several holidays might as well delay delivery. If anything of this happens the project might run late.
Whatever happens, positive or negative, we will share it with you. As avid backers and lovers of the Kickstarter community we are 100% dedicated to open backer communication. We will involve you as much as possible and be transparent with our process. During the project we will be present answering questions and reading all comments. During the campaign and production process we will update you regularly to make sure you always know where we are at.
P. S.: We are a team from Switzerland and Germany, our first language is German. Please keep that in mind whenever you read something that doesn't sound right for a native speaker. Sometimes we make mistakes just because we don't know better. In case of doubt please ask what we meant instead of making wrong assumptions. We are here to assist you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
