Thank you so much everyone who has supported us by backing "Get Off This" and helping us spread the word! We are very thankful and beyond excited! Our next big shoot is the week of July where David, Johnny, and some very special guests are going to gather in Virginia to shoot multi-camera stylized performance pieces that are a major part of the film. You will see the band up close and personal on a sound stage as they perform an eclectic mix just for our cameras. Your backing this project has allowed for us to make this happen. This will be EPIC - So congratulations and THANK YOU.
While the focus of this next shoot in Virginia will be Cracker songs (gem's each and every one), we also hope to do the same with the Camper Boyz in Santa Cruz sometime very soon.
Bottom line - our work is not finished. We have so much to do and we still really need help getting the word out in these last few days. It's wonderful we reached our goal and we are hoping to finish strong but we cannot do it without your help. We are doing everything we can to make sure this is a great film that does justice to it's subjects, story and of course, the music! It's all about the music!!
So far, this has been one of the greatest experiences and one of the hardest things we have ever done. Doing a project like this is a huge undertaking. It's not just the indie budget and working around full time jobs and begging friends for favors. The story itself is a big one. We are talking about thirty years of music and two bands here. Getting everything to line up has been like herding cats. We are really passionate about this and hope you see from the trailer and the other "sneak peaks" we have released.
Thanks to each and everyone of you and please, please, please share with friends or anyone you think will appreciate this story.

Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven fans For the Win!
We asked Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven fans whether or not they wanted this film and you guys answered with a resounding, YES! We reached our goal of $50,000 in just seven days, which is truly ridiculous and a testament to how awesome Cracker/CVB fans truly are!
We raised our goal, so now what do we plan to do?
Glad you asked.
We plan to make the film even Better. That's right, you heard us. Better.
Better Graphics, Better Color-Correction, Better Sound Design, and that's just for starters. Additional funds will mean more man hours spent crafting and fine tuning these aspects of the film.
MORE MUSIC. Right now we have the licensing rights to complete the project, but more money means more Music for you guys. Each song has individual licensing rights and there's more songs we want to add!
Additional funding also means we will be able to pay the people who have already donated countless hours of their time for free... like the Editors, Story Supervisors, Production Assistants and the Film Crew.
More money means More Rewards.
Our kickstarter offers once in a lifetime rewards for Cracker/CVB fans and they're going to keep being added until the end of the month.

Bandleader David Lowery is a temperamental and tenacious talent who has made a career out of his work as a singer, songwriter, and producer with his bands Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker. His pursuits and professional skills have survived the challenges of the significantly changing music business as he continues to act as the driving force producing the music of his two bands. This film looks at the art and business of his pursuits and explores the complexities of his professional path while exposing the music of Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker.
David Lowery has stayed true to his craft while pursuing his career, rarely compromising for the promise of fame. He continues to trail blaze as a proponent of intellectual property and is well noted for his activism and aggressive stance on artist rights and Internet distribution.
While clearly demonstrating a remarkable breadth of work and accomplishment, Get Off This brings recognition to an artist whose notoriety as a sardonic personality may have affected his mainstream status but has not inhibited his drive or deterred his fan base. This film raises questions on the measure of success in the music business and comments on the politics and culture of this era in American music history. Get Off This celebrates the music of Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker as driven by David Lowery’s non-pop culture career.
David Lowery is singer songwriter and guitarist for the legendary alt/indie bands Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven. These two bands have sold over a million records and had a dozen modern rock hits. He is also a record producer of some notoriety recording records for The Counting Crows, Jason Molina, Magnolia Electric Company, Lucero, Sparklehorse many more.
Also led by Camper Van Beethoven's frontman David Lowery, Cracker will be joining most of CVB's run of spring & summer 2013 U.S dates. Cracker has been described as a lot of things over the years: alt-rock, Americana, insurgent-country, and have even had the terms punk and classic-rock thrown at them. But more than anything Cracker are survivors. Cofounders Lowery and Johnny Hickman have been at it for over 20 years now - amassing nine studio albums (their most recent, 2009's critically acclaimed Sunrise In The Land Of Milk And Honey), multiple gold records, thousands of live performances, hit songs ("Low," "Euro-Trash Girl" and "Get Off This" to name just a few) that are still in current radio rotation around the globe, and a worldwide fan base - that despite the major sea-changes within the music industry - continues to grow each year. Along with longtime drummer Frank Funaro (since 1998's Gentleman's Blues) and bassist Sal Maida (since 2006's Greenland), this uniquely American band has no intentions of slowing down.
Camper Van Beethoven’s history begins in the mid-80s in Santa Cruz, California (up the coast a ways from Big Sur), when David Lowery and Victor Krummenacher formed the band, and—after Jonathan Segel joined the group--their jangly and stoned “Take The Skinheads Bowling” became an instant college radio staple. Their 80s discography includes Telephone Free Landslide Victory (1985), II & III (1986, the first featuring Greg Lisher), Camper Van Beethoven (1986), Our Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart (1988) and Key Lime Pie (1989). The band was one of the founders of the indie rock genre and one of the most eclectic bands of all time, known for a variety of folk, rock, punk, and world influences put into a playful blender. Krummenacher and Lisher formed Monks of Doom in the early 90’s and Krummenacher later began a solo career, recording several albums with guests like Dave Alvin. Segel played with Dieselhead, Sparklehorse and fronted his own bands Hieronymus Firebrain and Jack & Jill, later playing under his own name. Lowery released the solo album The Palace Guards on 429 Records in 2011. In late 2012, Camper Van Beethoven released "La Costa Perdida." Camper Van Beethoven is currently on tour from May to July 2013.
The main reason we are making this film is because we are big fans of Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven, and we believe that David Lowery is a true artist representing a specific era in American music history. We believe that David Lowery is a lyrical genius and through his music, acts as one of the greatest storytellers of his generation. As fans we feel that David and his bands Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker have been underexposed and overlooked, although both bands have had their share of mainstream success; by and large many people are unfamiliar with the sheer breadth of their catalog and consequently may not realize the influence of both bands on American music that will be their legacy.
Our intent is to capture their story, and to make more people aware of David’s contributions to popular music, to spotlight his accomplishments and success with lead guitarist Johnny Hickman and Cracker, and to share the complexities and achievement of his work with Camper Van Beethoven. This is a DIY story about hard work and perseverance in an industry that has been slow to adapt and under siege by technology over the last 15 years. David and his bands have been smack in the middle of this tumultuous period in the music industry. Anyone who has ever been in a band, dreamed of being in a band or is just interested in the music business will be able to relate to them in this film. David and his bands are considered pioneers; Camper Van Beethoven trail blazing in the alternative/indie music scene of the 80s and Cracker forging an authentic Americana style when Grunge was all the rage. Today the music and influence of Lowery and his bands continue to grow and he has become an important keystone in American music.
This is a big story that covers three decades of music and mayhem. This film will be feature length and we plan to share it with fans, enter it into prominent festivals and seek distribution. We have about 70% of the film shot and have about 60% of it edited. As with any labor of love, “Get Off This” has been made on blood, sweat and tears. In order to complete it we want to give it and the bands the due deserved by filming a high quality multi-camera concert with great sound. What is left to shoot and edit is key to the project and will make it possible for “Get Off This” to be great.
All funds raised will go to the following:
• Filming a quality mutli-camera, performance for both Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker with quality sound recording.
• Titles, Animation & Sound Design
• Licensing Fees (for archival footage, photos, and music – all key to telling David Lowery’s story)
Just click the green “Back This Project” button in the upper right-hand corner. Email us if you have any problems or questions. Because David Lowery, Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven fans are scattered around the world, we would like to remind you that anyone can donate. The rewards will be shipped to wherever you live (International shipping costs not included).
We’ve set our goal at $50,000. While that is a fraction of the cost of making this film, $50,000 is a significant amount of money and will go along way toward finishing this film. However, our hope is to exceed that so that we may really produce a great performance piece. We are counting on the support of fans out there who already know of David, Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven, and want a great performance film, who will help spread the word about the bands and their amazing talent. We would also like to reach would be fans who will be intrigued by the story, the music, and supportive of independent American music culture. As incentive we are offering great reward experiences. There are so many wonderful films and talented storytellers on Kickstarter and we are extremely thankful for the opportunity to reach an audience on this incredible destination. Our hope is that people will see the trailer and experience firsthand the passion, storytelling and production value that we have put into the project thus far and will want to be a part of helping us finish the film in a way that fulfills our original vision.
We are extremely thankful for any support we receive and are excited to make all of you proud!
We are a team of partners who have been in business together for 14 years. Michael Santorelli and Laurel Harris own a company that produces film, video and interactive content for marketing and advertising. Collectively we have a great deal of experience in the music and entertainment business and we have produced many film and video projects for entertainment, and marketing and advertising music since our inception. Mostly we have worked with high profile bands funded by music labels and this is our first passion project. We have partnered with 2 long time friends; producer/editor Candace Corelli and Producer/DP Jeff Grunther, both whom have taken extended leaves from their jobs to shoot all over the country and come hang out with us in Venice, Ca. where we edit. We do have many good talented friends who have kicked in favors to help us with this as we are all very passionate about storytelling and perhaps this is another reason we are so drawn to David Lowery. If you chose to support us we will make you proud as we care deeply about the quality of our work.
If we don’t raise our goal, we don’t get any of the funds. Donors pledge the amounts, but don’t actually pay until the goal is reached and the funding deadline has passed. We want to avoid this so please spread the word. Everything helps! When we meet our goal we will begin filming the larger performance scenes, licensing the rights and finishing the editing.
This film is only going to be possible with the help of you (David Lowery fans, Cracker Fans, Camper Van Beethoven fans, music fans, independent film fans, and anyone who loves a good DIY story). We want this to be your film just as much as it is ours. The more people who participate, the more chance we have of getting the story out. To help out, please Twitter it, “Like” us on Facebook, email this Kickstarter link to friends or people who you think might like Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven and this film. Thank you for reading this and for your support!
Risks and challenges
Get Off This is perhaps a little unusual compared to most Kickstarter projects in that we are not just setting out on this adventure -- we are already well over two years into production and are on our way to completion.
The making of this film has been quite a journey for us and has presented many challenges along the way but we have overcome them through a mix of experience and perseverance. We have put a good deal of personal time and resources into this film that has got us to this point but in order to shoot the soundstage performances and complete the post production we must raise funds. These elements are pivotal to the film and we are seeking interested parties and we need your help.
Most of the money we raise will go towards shooting multi-camera performances of seven to eight songs on a sound stage where we can really capture the emotion of the song, the quality of the music and the interplay of the musicians. Once we have that we need to address a few more holes in the story with some additional opportunities and then we can complete editing. Once we finish the edit we will enter in post production. Steps required are color correction, audio mixing/mastering and conform (compiling all the elements into a finished product) and if we are able to, we would like to work with the artist Michael Wertz, who has done much of the art work for both CVB and Cracker, to create an animated title sequence that reflects the feel of the band and their influence on visual art . It will also allow us to complete the films graphics to present the highest quality production. We are excited to expedite this process and eager to get the film out to an audience.
This passion and our combined years of experience in filmmaking will continue to fuel us through the completion process. We appreciate your consideration and any amount of donation for us to make this possible.
