The Hive Drive - Buzzed Bee Meadery
In October of 2014 Buzzed Bee Meadery was incorporated and the adventure into commercial mead making began. As we approach three years in business formally, with one year of sales we are already planning our next phase. We would like to expand our operations with the addition of "The Hive" event center.
This is a major undertaking and we are looking for a kick start to get things going. This is where YOU can help.
We are looking for your support to help us make The Hive event center a reality. Our goal is to raise at least $10,000 to kick start our project.
A little about The Hive event center.
We have a unique building, on site, that we believe will make a beautiful event space for small weddings, private parties and Meadery events. The interior renovations will include the removal of an in-ground pool, the addition of accessible restrooms, the renovation of a kitchen area, the addition of a bar along with electrical, plumbing and HVAC updates. The exterior space will include a new parking lot, a renovated outdoor deck and landscaping.
Our Timeline and Needs:
- Step 1: Architectural review, plan development and cost estimate preparation - $9,000 - Completion by December 2017
- Step 2: Secure funds necessary to begin construction - Spring/Summer 2018
- Step 3: Construction phase - Fall 2018 through Spring 2019.
- Step 4: Event space open - Summer 2019.
This is a fairly aggressive schedule for us and success will greatly depend on the funds we have available throughout the process.
We are putting together some of our favorite items for your contribution. Our popular engraved tasting glass is on the list along with our mead tumbler. We will be creating a new meadery sticker and mead tote bag. Contribute at a Hive Builder level and above and get a special Hive Builder t-shirt. Join in at the Hive Donor level and above and you will be recognized on our donor wall in the hive.
Cheers to all of you that have been supporting our start up so far and to those of you who are considering supporting our future plans!

Risks and challenges
Starting a new business is full of risks and challenges. During the past three years our goal has always been to work through the challenges together and minimize our risk by having a well thought out plan, In the end we have always tried to be ready to accommodate change.
We recognize that this next phase of our business expansion will come with challenges. Construction projects are full of surprises. By working with an architect in the first phase of the project we will be able to develop a complete picture of our future that can be our guide.
The biggest risk we see relates to our anticipated timeline for completion based on funds available. Strategic growth within the resources we have available to us has been the foundation of our business plan. If our business does not grow at the projected pace or we are unable to secure additional funding we will experience a delay in construction. Our plan should this occur will be to work on the critical items first.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
