I (heart) holiday songs
It's been five years since the release of Lovers Holiday, and I have to admit, I kept writing Christmas songs after that. Jazz + Christmas - it just works! My goal is to have a full new album to you by November, as well as its hopefully joining Lovers Holiday on my Pandora station.
8 New Songs + 3 Favorites
These Christmas Days started with some songs that I didn't have time to record in 2012, and now it's become even more ambitious and involved than any of my albums to date. While LH had two 18-piece band tracks, TCD will include five big band tracks - four of which are brand new originals, arranged by Scott Ragsdale and Scott Silbert and recorded by Swing Shift. Swinglab quartet returns with four additional originals and two holiday favorites.
(That makes 11 tracks in all - a great value)

Two Bands, One Album
Above: Recording complete! Behind the scenes at Bias Studios
Bias Studios: The Capitol Region's Best
I've chosen to record all of our tracks at Bias Studios in Springfield, VA. Not only is Bias home to the two best recording engineers in the Northern VA/DC area - Bob Dawson and Mike Monseur, it's the birthplace of award-winning albums by Mary Chapin Carpenter, Afro Blue, Chuck Brown, The Chieftans, Dave Matthews Band, and Sweet Honey in the Rock. That being said, the rates are a little steeper than studios I've used in the past, but I'm confident in the material and the musicians, and I want the very best sound for this album and for Christmases to come. You get what you pay for.
My number one guest singer for two duets is my oldest daughter, Isabella Curtis, who sang Blue Skies on the live album.
I've also invited MD and DC vocalist and pianist, Jeremy Ragsdale (MGM National Harbor) to lay down some piano on an original song, as well as East Coast party band maestro and trumpeter Ray Caddell for some fluglehorn magic. Jeff Johnson will sit in on drums with the big band. Returning again to winds are the incredible Dave Schiff and Rob Maletick.

Risks and challenges
As always, time is the challenge for recordings.
I'll do my best to have this wrapped by mid-August, latest, for November shipping.
