Thanks for stopping by!
Hey there. Thanks for stopping by! I (Eli) have been around the Kickstarter bend once before and it was too game changing to pass up again. Back with a new and bigger project, here is the story of RitaRita:
Jump in the Delorean and go back 10 years. Drive to a small house in the suburbs of Northern Virginia. Peek through the front curtains and you’ll see RitaRita’s first wobbly steps towards a lifetime of musical marathons.
Being the older sibling, Eli was the first contender. *Cue majestic John Williams score* Quickly moving from the pots and pans in the kitchen to the First Act drum kit that would soon be wailed on to its dying breath, Eli was set on playing music from his first interactions with its beauty. Around seven, songwriting became a central focus and with a growing struggle to write songs to the drums, he learned a few guitar chords from his dad.
Tired of playing alone and in growing need of a rhythm section, Eli employed younger brother, Jere, on the drum kit. With frequent sibling lessons and the never-ending, error-rearing jams that filled the household, the brothers managed to grow in parallel. Jere soon outpaced Eli on the drums and as they got older and wiser, so did the free-flowing music they would play everyday.
These jams were like conversations. Fueled by the improvisational inspiration of Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, and Miles Davis, Jere and Eli grew up communicating through the language of music.
Eli, having focused the totality of his energy towards music, continued to invite Jere along, despite him always seeing it as Eli’s game. In his senior year of high school, Eli was accepted to Berklee College of Music. Half a year later, he’d come to the realization that there were not the funds or means to make Berklee a reality. With his small savings, Eli began traveling and recording.
With Jere’s growing abilities in guitar and songwriting, the musical convergence of this brotherhood only strengthened. With brains that exist on the same wavelength, voices that sound alike and a mutual love for the same artists, Eli and Jere decided to stop ignoring the signs, make it official, and begin the recording project RitaRita.
Our First LP
Now you’re up to date. RitaRita was fated to form. We’ve always had a model that worked and now its time to take that to the studio. The last record was a blast to create and you guys brought it to life. Kickstarter singlehandedly pulled those tunes out of the guitar and made it possible for new songs to be heard. Finding North was in essence the best seven songs Eli had at the time and we’re proud of that first phase. You can find that Kickstarter here.
This album is about a lot of things. It’s about transitions. It’s about family. It’s about the current beginning and end of what we know. We’re tackling a much more vibrant and vivacious sound than anything we’ve previously recorded. These tunes will be larger and more experimental. The album will tell a story start to finish. It’s the record us brothers have always wanted to make and RitaRita is the realization that we are bringing to life with our own hands.
We are RitaRita
The jamming, the writing and everything in-between are an extension of our bond and we want to involve you in the sonic magic that has kept us playing together for so long. We’re halfway there and we need your support. We hope to engage you in our process, and together create a free-flowing body of music that speaks to you the way it speaks to us. Thank you. Peace and love. We are RitaRita.
Risks and challenges
This record is the sonic embodiment of our lives in progress. With previous work, half of the music's success was reliant on the other people in the room. Now it'll just be the two of us in our home studio, cranking these songs out, playing every part and piecing together a full statement on our own time. We are SO pumped for this change in pace.
Just writing that is scary. This will be no small feat. Our heads are bursting with ideas and this music is all we've been able to talk about for over a year. We have already begun writing and demoing tunes, but this Kickstarter marks the proper starting point of this album's fruition.
Making something honest, creative and unique to ourselves is the most central focus of this entire project and its challenging to find all the right answers. Jere has only released small amounts of music and Eli has never produced a project of this caliber. This album will be mixed and mastered with the assistance of multiple sets of ears, but the majority of the work falls in our hands. Our sound will be motivated both by what we do know and what we will discover. Sometimes the strangest answer is the right one and we're trying to let the weird ideas be heard.
RitaRita is immensely grateful for your encouragement and belief in this process because on the other end is going to be some incredible music that we can't wait to share. We are die-hard musicians and even bigger music nerds and we will not stop until we create a body of work that adequately captures the opus we've been slowly creating in our heads in the past 10 years of playing together. Cheers to that and cheers to you. See ya on the other side!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
