Pelo is an Italian illustration magazine founded in 2016 by a group of students from ISIA, a design university based in Urbino. Born as a self-initiated production, over time it has become a constantly evolving editorial project that in every issue deals with an irreverent topic, outspokenly.
In the first number we have dealt with the topic of sex, so irony became the key to divide the contents into 4 levels of “difficulty”: “flashes of heat for beginners”, “how beautiful is this brush?”, “orgies, red butts and painful climax” and "masters of shameless sex”.
In the second issue we analysed the OBSESSIONS, dividing the magazine in two sections, manias and phobias. We tried to lighten the mood with irony because “phobias” are sometimes psychic illnesses very difficult to understand.


Pelo is not only a magazine but also a collective of 21 illustrators who are involved in analysing themes that contain stereotypes and taboos, producing an exciting, innovative work focused on reinterpreting the contents in a personal way rather than translating them literally.
In the last year we collaborated with numerous illustrators and writers, created a website, distributed the magazine in many independent bookshops and participated to festivals in Italy, Spain and Portugal.

AND NOW? THE THIRD ISSUE: FAKE NEWS
With the third issue we intend to expand our network even further. We made many changes to the magazine, both in terms of graphics and content, and looked for new collaborations across Europe. What has remained unchanged is our critical and ironic approach towards the chosen theme.
The third issue will contain:
- contributions from 36 illustrators;
- a lot more articles and stories;
- a graphic insert;
- a poster in A3 format.


The theme we choose, fake news, is a very important topic for its relevance. Who nowadays reading a news on the Internet has never asked: but is it really true? PELO#3 will answer precisely to this question, placing the accent on some of the greatest historical and contemporary lies.


The main purpose of our collective is to create a cultural magazine that uses an unusual language, therefore capable of creating a sociological analysis of our age using irony and boldness as a means of reflection.

Risks and challenges
With crowdfunding donations we aim to:
- create a cultural association;
- increase the print run from 300 copies to 1000 offset copies;
- expand our distribution network in bookstores;
- bring the magazine to festivals all over Europe.
