About this project
Angelia Ami is a new womenswear brand, meant for a contemporary woman with a strong personality, who looks for clothes that are able to express this idea. Its essence is to make clothes that are not just uniquely charming: rather, clothes whose daring mix of fabrics brings together stories from different places and times. Clothes that tell a story.
Angelia Ami is designed and produced by Angelia Ami Corno, a 22 years old fashion designer, just graduated from Istituto Marangoni in Milan. Her hands draw minimal simple lines that reveal an inner meaning.
The Collection: MATAIO FW 1617
The core idea behind all my collections is to show something that conveys emotions and feelings, something that has a story to tell. I want to pass that thin line that gives fashion a meaning beyond beauty. Beauty has to talk, communicate, evoke, inspire. That's why materials are at the beating heart of my research. All over the globe, I look for fabrics that have a life of their own: translated into minimal, sober lines, these materials transform into my clothes and contribute their identity and meaning. They tell their own story and mingle it to the ones of the women who will wear them.
An example of this is the spring summer 2016 collection, based on an unusual dialogue between cotton flowers, frame-made fabrics and innovative technical textiles.
Since I'm still working on Mataio FW1617, here's a little taste of my last work so far..
Here you can see the complete SS16 lookbook.
The idea of Mataio was born in my head last summer, during a trip to Tanzania. There I encountered and fell in love with the Masai culture, and above all with their brightly colored tartan fabrics: amazing red, blue, green, sometimes a little purple. I was amazed to discover that these tartans were originally taken from the British colonizers and soon after started to be produced in Africa.
The collection revolves around the idea to use only original Masai blankets imported from Africa and turn them into coats, quilted with warm fabric and lined with silk. Hybridized with technical fabrics coming from the highly innovative London market, as well as with fur and knitwear, the Masai fabrics will come to a new life in the context of our Western cities.
MATAIO FW 1617 will be presented during Milan Fashion Week, February 2016.
Oh, if you are wondering why I called it Mataio, it's named after the Masai friend I met in Tanzania.
Why does Angelia Ami need 15.5K?
When Mataio was just a raw idea in my head, the no profit association A CODED WORLD contacted me, offering me to take part to their Milan Fashion Week's show, dedicated to young talents. From that moment on everything started taking shape: the collection, the catwalk, the showroom. But all these initiatives, that will allow for the launch of my first collection, imply quite some financial engagement.
This Kickstarter campaign was created to help with the costs attached to completing, producing and presenting the collection of Angelia Ami at Milan Fashion Week, February 2016.
Among these costs are:
- Materials and fabrics costs
- Professional production of the 20 outfits
- Fashion Show participation fee
- Showroom fee
- Professional photo shooting
- Press Office
Any amount of support you can give is truly appreciated. Launching a fashion collection at professional standards involves many serious startup costs and any support (big or small) helps so much.
Angelia Ami's future goal from the Milan Fashion Week onwards is to grow in reputation and customers recognition.
Risks and challenges
This is not the first collection I create. During the Marangoni years I have been working to several smaller collections, presenting them into precise deadlines.
In doing this I have experienced some surprises and setbacks: I can control my own work, but I can't do the same with others'.
That's why I decided to work with professional tailors and suppliers, and I'm ready to jump in if necessary.
