Hi my friends!
My name is Julie and this is the story of my family business-Villa México Café. We are currently located in Beacon Hill, inside a gas station (you read that right) across Mass General Hospital. After serving homemade food here for 5 years, we will need to leave by the end of 2011.
The land owner wants to construct an office building and we need to be out of our loved little spot. Although we considered getting a food truck, since the City of Boston has decided to allow more across town, we need a storefront where to cook and continue serving our loyal customers.
Ideally we'd love to get a truck to expose our food to more Bostonians, and maintain us near the area where all our friends, our customers, are. However, this is an opportunity to make a move into a new, independent, location.
After running essential figures, the cost of the location set-up will be between $20,000 to $50,000. This does not account for legal, health, permit or marketing fees associated with the new business. We know that the costs are high, but hopefully with your help we can make the load lighter.
What we would like to raise, with the help of the KickStarter community, is the start up money to pay permit and legal fees, and start marketing efforts for the launch of our little take-out joint.
Although we have in business in Boston for years, we are not equipped with all the savings necessary to pay for the relocation. We have also grown in time and would not like to loose all that we have worked for because of issues with location. We are willing to keep serving the best, homemade, authentic Mexican food and we hope we can.
The money you help us raise not only ensures we keep our little business running. It would also help us, Julie and Bessie (my daughter), maintain our livelihood. It would ensure that our dream of having a family-for-families business survives, and our legacy continues.
I started this business because I missed the food of my country. But, I never imagined this business would take a life of it's own. Introducing me to so many wonderful people, putting my child through college, and allowing me to survive as a widow mom and sole provider. We don't want to give up on our Villa Mexico, because it has given us an extended family.
So please, become a part of the family and give a lot or a little. Everything is something for us. Thank you!
