Explore this large hospital with hundreds of rooms and learn the history of Wood Haven Asylum. Each room is different and contains its own story.
Complete different tasks by yourself or with your friends. The tasks you receive are randomized on every playthrough and so is everything else. All items are spread randomly throughout the hospital, sometimes behind locked doors requiring keys. After you complete your tasks, all you have left to do is leave... if you can.
Survive this nightmarish asylum. Things may be lurking around any corner, any door and any room. Events may occur unexpectedly which will only grow more dangerous the longer you stay inside.
Wood Haven has been built from the ground up with the main idea in mind: a truly horrifying game. All events, items, tasks, enemies, scares and locked rooms are completely randomized every time you load the game. Every time you play through the game, you will have a different experience. With hundreds of events, hundreds of rooms, dozens of different tasks, etc. it is nearly impossible to ever have the same play through twice.
Play by yourself or with your friends. Wood Haven will have online support, making the experience that much more enjoyable. Tasks will be harder to complete the more friends you have, so let this be a warning to you!
This is the one hospital you will never feel safe in. You never know when, where or what will come after you.
About the game and core philosophy
Wood Haven has been designed from the ground up for replay-ability. All the core mechanics of the game have been structured to give a very random and new feeling each and every time you load into the game. There is a random element to nearly every mechanic that is in place. The only core thing that is not randomized is the actual building itself.
The main objective is the game is simple: you will have to collect 5-10 items randomly placed throughout the hospital while also needing to complete 4 randomly generated tasks. There are hundreds of spawn locations for the collectible items and over 60 different tasks that can be completed.
On top of the randomized objectives and item spawns, all doors throughout the hospital will also be randomly locked or unlocked, open or closed. Keys will be also randomly placed to unlock the doors (but never placed in an area inaccessible). All the lights will be randomly turned on or off, switches will randomly function or not. You're starting to get the idea. Nothing will ever be the same, guaranteed.
The building will retain the same layout with each play. The reasoning for this is to allow you to familiarize with the building and some of the rooms, making it so you aren't getting lost every time you play. The building itself is 3 total floors. There is a basement which contains a labyrinth and morgue, a main floor which contains the surgical area and over 100 patient rooms, and the upper floor which contains even more patient rooms for the extremely violent and dangerous.
The lights also play a large mechanic in the game. If you stand in the dark too long, things will become more active. Lights will randomly turn on and off, enemies can turn off lights as well. If your battery dies, find a lit area! Hopefully it stays lit long enough for you to find batteries...
Wood Haven has a very creepy and dark atmosphere. There will be jump scares and very intense moments, but the game will not throw those at you constantly. The ambiance alone is terrifying enough!
There will be moments where you will be chased, where things jump out at you, lights turn on/off, doors slam shut or open and so many more events! All these are completely randomized and designed so you never expect it coming.
Wood Haven will support a duo multiplayer experience. You and one other friend will be able to explore the hospital together, complete more tasks and find more items. The danger will be increased as well!
Thank you so much for reading and supporting my project. I've been working very hard and have put so much time into this. I'm very dedicated to completing this project and look forward to scaring the hell out of you!
The money raised will greatly help me complete this project faster as I am working on it alone. It will also help me purchase high quality models, graphics and animations! It's still a little ways from a playable version but everyday it's getting closer.
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge is creating a very replayable game. With every time you start the game up, you will have to explore new parts of Wood Haven Asylum, discovering new things and much more of the history of the asylum.
It is being developed heavily with being completely replayable and that also means the scares and story need to be new and exciting with each playthrough. There will be hundreds of randomized scares and events which can take place and you will never know which ones are active and which aren't. It makes for a very exciting and thrilling playthrough every time!
Playing with your friends is something very important to the game. You can play alone and experience it all for yourself, but being able to play with your friends makes it that much better. Split up, stay together, anything you choose.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
