YOU can bring the 1957 Blondie TV series to Blu-ray in a special edition with bonus features.
The comic strip Blondie, and the 28 feature films that later followed are beloved by fans all over the world. But a lot of people are unaware that a 1957 TV series with 26 episodes starring Arthur Lake and Pamela Britton was produced.
WHY YOUR HELP IS NEEDED
When we licensed Blondie for release on home video, we fully expected to use the existing masters and release the complete series on DVD. However, after viewing the masters and finding them sub-standard, I had a test scan done in 2k of the existing 35mm prints on one episode and I was blown away by the sharpness of the transfer. And I thought "THIS HAS TO BE RELEASED ON BLU-RAY!"
I also thought it would be great to add some bonus features like an interview with Stuffy Singer, who played Alexander on the series, and who also did old time radio with many stars including Jack Benny.
But scanning, restoring, mastering, authoring, bonus features, etc. is very costly for standard DVD and even more expensive for Blu-ray (this project will cost approximately $45 - $50K). And while we don't need the entire $50K budgeted for this project to release it on Blu, your help is needed to confirm this release warrants the full ClassicFlix treatment in HD by reaching our goal of raising $20K.
WHAT ARE THE SPECS OF THE RELEASE?
If we hit the goal of $20,000 raised, we'll be able to restore and release all 26 episodes in high definition on Blu-ray as "Blondie - The Complete Series". Included will be an interview with Stuffy Singer. Ship date will be in the fall (likely October), and will be ahead of any general release.
$25,000 STRETCH GOAL
If we raise $25,000 or more, we'll look to add some or all of the original commercials to the set. Inclusion will depend on availability of both the audio and video sources (below is a screencap we took of a Nescafe cast commercial that was in the raw scan of which there is currently no audio for). We also may add another bonus feature.
The bottom line is YOU CAN MAKE THIS HAPPEN. Make a pledge today and BRING BLONDIE TO BLU! Share it with everyone you know TOO!
My pledge to you is that I'll oversee every aspect of this set from beginning to end and that you'll get a top-notch release you can cherish for years to come.
Risks and challenges
We've been in business for over 10 years as a retailer and started our label in early 2017. While this is our first Kickstarter campaign, this ain't our first rodeo. We've released 18 titles on Blu/DVD in the last year and a half so we know what it takes to get the job done, and to do it well.
That being said, there are always risks when dealing with film and audio elements over 60 years old. Some film elements might be in perfect shape (like our test scan), while others might be pretty rough. However, we have already scanned a few episodes and done a visual inspection of the remaining elements and they all appear to be in good condition. As with our previous Blu releases, we will invest a lot of time and money in restoring the film elements, but there is sometimes only so much you can do with degraded or damaged film so image quality may vary based on the condition of the materials.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
