About this project
What's a ModSock?
Here at ModSock, we know socks. We carry more than 1,000 different sock styles at our two retail stores in Washington state and Western New York. The brands we sell are awesome, but we have some sock ideas of our own we want to share with the world.
Over the past year, we've designed a small collection of seriously fun socks. To create our debut collection, we drew inspiration from customer ideas, art, stories, YouTube videos and psychic visions. The result is six whimsical, unique sock designs for men and women. Four of the designs have both a ladies’ knee high and a men’s crew version: Jackalope, Penny Farthing, Boob Tube and Monkey-Bot. Just for the ladies we also have Happy Hedgehog and Chasing the Carrot. Our socks are a quality blend of 65% cotton, 24% nylon, 8% poly and 3% spandex.
We've put everything we have into starting this brand — hearts, minds and broken piggy banks. Now we have sample socks for men and women that look amazing and feel great.
ModSock needs you!
Unfortunately, meeting our manufacturer's minimum requirement for production is expensive. To make our debut line a reality, ModSock needs financial backing from people who wear socks. The funds we raise through this Kickstarter campaign will be used to produce the socks you see here.
We’ve got a top manufacturer lined up ready to put these socks into production — we just need your help. Your support through Kickstarter will help us pay for our first run and set everything in motion. In exchange, we want to get ModSock into your hands and on your feet. All pledges over $10 will be rewarded with socks from our debut line. Pledge $100, and you collect them all.
We hope you’ll join us in taking the next step!

Risks and challenges
This project is a year in the making, and we have already taken steps to ensure we can complete this Kickstarter successfully.
The number one risk for ModSock is manufacturing delays. We have made every effort to consider the possible outcomes of this project and what they would mean for our timeline and shipping dates. We have set realistic shipping goals that factor in potential delays. If everything goes smoothly, we may even be able to ship rewards to backers ahead of schedule. Barring a wildly successful Kickstarter (and wouldn't that be nice!), we have allowed more than enough time to complete this project.
We are committed to communicating with our backers throughout production and shipment so if obstacles do arise everyone will know what to expect. ModSock is not just a Kickstarter project; we also operate two retail sock stores. You can be sure we will be accountable for seeing this project through to fulfillment.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We are manufacturing our socks in South Korea. We have so far been unable to find a domestic sock mill with the technology necessary to produce the intricate details in our designs. The manufacturers we found with this capability are in South Korea and China. We prefer the South Korean product in terms of quality and consistency. The particular company we have decided to work with makes some of the socks we currently retail, and we are confident they are the right company to handle ModSock's production.
We know how important US manufacturing is, which is why our stores carry lots of socks made domestically. With the interest there is in graphics socks, we may even see US mills investing in the technology needed to create these very intricate designs. Perhaps if ModSock REALLY takes off, we can one day manufacture our own socks right in Bellingham!
