THE HOME OF THE BRAVE
Home of the Brave's Portrait of America Postcard Initiative is a print collection of postcards that captures what matters most to America.
We've noticed that our current state of debate often leaves no space for vulnerability, which backs us further into ideological corners and polarizes the opinion of the other past the point of conversation. What's worse- our vulnerabilities often look a lot like our motives, and when we can't share these, we can never achieve understanding.
So we're distributing several thousand postcards across the United States asking Americans about their hopes and fears for the nation in order to learn more about what really matters to us all.
We will be sharing a few of our favorite answers on social media and, at the end of our journey, compiling a book of even more.
Our goal is that sharing hopes and fears will allow us to recognizeshared humanity in opinions different than our own. We want to reveal America not in reds and blues, but dimensions of lavender.
Are you in one of the cities where we will be stopping? We'd love to hear about what matters to you most! Email us at email@example.com and let's get a coffee.
INTERVIEWS + SURVEYS
In order to make the biggest difference, we want to learn everything that we can about what matters to America. We are conducting interviews and surveys in every place we go.
We're a sister duo with dual backgrounds: Chelsie with science/tech engineering and Connyre with arts/media production. Together we can innovate anything (and we like each other tons, so we're fairly confident we can handle 40 days on the road together).
We're in this because we're passionate about this nation and the people in it. We believe in America at its best, and we're going to be part of the solution.
We are crazy enough to drive 10,000 miles and to distribute thousands of stamped postcards, but we know that it takes a little bit of craziness to change the way that people operate.
- Travel expenses (gas, plane tickets to puerto rico, rental car in puerto rico): $5,345.
- Post card initiative expenses (postage, printing, stamps, website hosting, SD cards, lav mic, perforator): $2803
We've already spent just over $1,000 self funding this project. We are so passionate about this project that we saved up for our launch to ensure that it becomes a reality. We can't meet our full vision without your help. Thank you for joining the movement.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU
for supporting this journey. America can do better, and projects like this one are important to maintain our unity. It'll take some bravery to get our nation where we know we can be. Good thing we're living in the Home of the Brave.
Risks and challenges
This trip is ambitious, and with that there are serious risks. We are typing this risk page from a Firestone Tire waiting room... so we are already well aware of things going wrong on the road!
We are so passionate about the need for better communication in America that we are currently self funding this trip. If we don't meet our kickstarter goals, we will not be able to continue after the first leg of our journey and will have captured much less of the American voice.
We have worked hard to build a strong network of consultants, concerned Americans and friends who are also passionate about improving the current state of things in America. We will continue to rely on our network for support to work with us to make a difference.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
