Finding Home is a slow-burn romance/drama comic set in a fantasy world, with a focus on nature, emotion and the small moments that change how you feel about someone.
The goal of this Kickstarter is to print the first 4 chapters into a beautiful, 140 page book - Volume 1: The Traveller. Both the print and pdf kickstarter versions will have improved text, readability and colours, plus extra content and info about the world.
The pages for this first book are completely drawn and finished, and it would be Volume 1 of a planned 3 (I have a clear idea and full script ready for the next 2 volumes). The comic is also being gradually posted online as a webcomic, which you can read here. Volume 1 will finish posting in November 2018, so backing this kickstarter also means you can read Volume 1 before it’s available to the public (as well as offline, ad-free and all at once).
Supporting this project will help me not only print the book, but continue making the story in future.
Having abandoned his wood nymph family and spent a disastrous few years failing to fit in among humans, Chepi now travels alone, avoiding making friends or staying anywhere too long. That is, until he ends up on the road with someone he can’t seem to keep his distance from - Janek.
As the story begins, Janek just wants to get home and is happy to have a travelling companion on the way. But the closer they become, the more he’s drawn to Chepi, and the more he finds out about his nightmares, magic and troubling past…
The story takes place travelling through the characters’ memories, as well as the forests and landscapes of a lush fantasy world. The setting draws from different cultures, myths, histories and imagination, and the plants Chepi grows when emotional are based on different flower meanings and symbolism from around the world.
As well as the PDF and physical copy of Finding Home Volume 1, there are a bunch of rewards available at higher tiers, including exclusive art, incredible guest artists and personalised rewards.
T-shirts will be available in unisex sizes XS-XXL. They'll have a rue, rosemary and wormwood design that'll be screen printed onto carbon-neutral, ethically traded Earth Positive baseball tees - Earth Positive use renewable energy, organic cotton and fair trade, Fair Wear Foundation-approved ethical labour practises. More info here.
If you support the project at higher tiers you become a project 'sponsor.' On top of all the other rewards, there are personalised sketches and digital commissions at these levels to thank you for helping the project happen.
I’m honestly honoured to be working with these amazing illustrators - I am huge fans of both of their work and extremely excited to have them on board. Each will be making artwork for the campaign that will be part of the A5 print set.
Shazleen Khan is a London-based illustrator who makes beautiful, fluid, emotive and atmospheric illustrations and comics. Shazleen specialises in narrative illustration as a means to communicate difficult topics, and though she only graduated recently, she’s already making absolutely stunning work/ I’m thrilled to have her as a guest artist and incredibly excited to see what she does in the future.
Previous publishers include 404 Ink, Sweatdrop Studios, and Time Out, and her work was longlisted for the Folio Society House of Illustration competition this year.

Kevin Jay Stanton is a huge babe and actual master of plant illustration. Kevin was a huge inspiration to me while I was a student and among other things makes incredible designs using flowers and natural landscapes. Kevin is the creator of FEZZINE, co-creator of 1001 Knights, and Burl & Fur, and his intimidatingly prestigious list of previous clients includes The New York Times, Facebook, Barnes and Noble, Penguin Random House, 20th Century Fox, Boom! Studios… etc.
I've added this extra section to the project because... we made it! I’m thrilled to say the project has his its goal, and thanks to your help, I’ll be able to print Volume 1 of Finding Home and continue on with the story. A huge thank you to everyone who’s pledged.
Most of the money raised above the goal will be used to fulfil rewards - the more people pledge, the more books, postage and extras are needed - and help with associated costs that currently come out of my own pocket, like ISBN fees, paying my editor and working on the comic itself! Pledges above the goal directly support me making the rest of the comic, which is my dream and biggest goal right now - extra funding really helps establish the future of the series.
I’ve also added a couple of stretch goals which will be announced if each goal is hit!
4k: guest artist unlocked! Along with prints by me, Shazleen Khan and Kevin Jay Stanton, a bonus guest art print by Becky Glendining will also be added to all Primrose and above tiers!
Becky Glendining is a freelance illustrator and lover of plants who I’m EXTREMELY excited to say will be contributing a bonus piece of guest art now the project has hit the 4k stretch goal.
6k: extra pages unlocked! Extra development art pages will be added to each book!! ✨(including ebooks!)
About the Author
I’m Hari, a comic artist and illustrator based in the UK. I’ve been working on this story for the last couple of years, alongside my freelance illustration, but have had the characters and ideas for much longer - this comic includes a lot of themes I’ve been thinking about for a long time. I also draw kids & educational illustrations professionally, design t-shirts, do a lot of comic conventions and draw D&D characters.
The majority of the money will go towards printing costs for the book, followed by postage, guest art, rewards and fees. All the rewards are being printed by trusted manufacturers I have used before.
- What age is this comic suitable for?
I normally describe Finding home as older teen or 16+ as a guide. This isn’t a hard and fast rule and the comic does not include explicit themes, but it does have swearing, romance and dark themes that touch on trauma and mental health issues. Please message me if you have questions, or want more specific information about content.
- Who’s the writer/ colourist/ editor/ printer?
I’m both the writer and artist for Finding Home, and also work freelance on comic pencils, lineart, colouring and editing - please visit this page if you are interested in commissions or hiring me for work.
who I would both thoroughly recommend.
- Are these the characters from Nyx in the Overworld?
Yes! All my fantasy comics are set in the same universe and have overlapping characters. They’re drawn in very different styles as each story is ‘told’ by a different character.
Risks and challenges
The comic is already drawn and finished. I’ve printed several of my books before, designed T-shirts, organised collaborative and anthology projects with other artists, am used to posting large volumes of products with Etsy. I also ran my first kickstarter last year for a previous long-form webcomic, which funded in less than 24 hours and delivered rewards early.
I think because of my experience the risks are small, but some contingency funds and time are built into the project, and backers will be kept fully updated if any unexpected delays occur.
