About this project
We designed the Modeska office set to be stylish, durable, and to complement the latest tech products that are in your office and home. Our line of products includes six deskmates: a business card holder, the mini bin for knick-knacks and small items, the pen cup, a sticky-note dispenser, a mail tray, and a paper tray.
Unlike most office supplies on the market, our products are 100% made in the USA – design, manufacturing, and finishing. Each piece is made from aircraft-grade aluminum and is extremely durable. These are quality products that we’re proud of, and will stand the test of time. Go ahead – pass them down to your grandchildren.
Each Modeska piece started from a series of hand-drawn sketches. We found inspiration in the latest technology products on the market today and were also heavily influenced by Scandinavian furniture design. We focused on simple lines and a clean, modern look that is now the core of Modeska’s brand.
After getting feedback on our concepts from a number of designers and fellow entrepreneurs (people who we knew would be interested in our product), our designs went through several revisions and were fine tuned so they could be converted into CAD drawings. We received additional feedback on our CAD drawings when we met with several potential manufacturers and discussed how each piece would be manufactured.
The Making of Modeska
After meeting with a number of manufacturers on the East Coast, we selected a Connecticut-based company based on its experience, professionalism, and reliability. The company is equipped to handle large production runs and has provided assembly, product development, and engineering services for over 50 years. Their proximity to our office was also important, because it allows us to oversee the production of the Modeska product line. Partnering with a local vendor and supporting jobs in our home state was a huge added bonus!
With a manufacturer selected, we went through a few rounds of fine tuning by producing prototypes of each piece. It was important that every angle and detail was right. After a few months, we knew that we had a prototype that was ready to be manufactured for the public.
Every Modeska piece begins as a solid sheet of aircraft-grade aluminum. Our CAD drawings are loaded into a laser cutting machine and the part is cut from the sheet. The edges of the piece are then grinded and smoothed by hand. After grinding, they get inspected and then move onto the forming process. The flat piece of aluminum is shaped in a press to give it a three-dimensional shape. One final round of inspection and polishing, and the part is sent to finishing.
A powder coating process is used to give each piece its beautiful finish. Powder coating is essentially a “powder paint” that is electrostatically applied and cured under high heat. This gives each piece a finish that is both beautiful and extremely durable. The finishing touch is a laser etched piece of cork. This cork is adhered to the bottom of each Modeska piece to protect the surface of your desk.

Hi Kickstarter. My name is Jeremy Biron and Modeska’s story begins when I decided to redesign my office last year. As I looked around my workspace, I realized that I had a well-designed computer, a sleek laptop stand, the latest ergonomic chair, and even great artwork on the walls. All of these new things fit together perfectly with one major exception – the desk accessories.
As the owner of Honest Office, I assumed that there must be better options available on the market. I grabbed my office supply catalog, and began to search. I even visited a local office supply store. After finding only standard, boring organizers that were mostly made of plastic, I jumped onto the computer and began searching online. I wanted something simple and clean – something that would complement my computer, a Macbook Pro.
I was certain that there had to be at least one set of office accessories that fit my criteria, but after searching through catalogs and online, I came up empty-handed. I couldn’t believe that there were so many fancy, well-designed tech products on the market and I couldn’t get a good desk set to match. I quickly realized that if I was looking for something like this, then there must be others looking for the same thing.
With more than ten years of experience in the office supply industry and a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Connecticut, I have the skills needed to successfully bring Modeska's products to market. My background in accounting, inventory demand forecasting, project management, and marketing will help make Modeska a success. I have experience implementing scalable processes to allow for rapid growth in a startup.
I have also assembled an experienced team for support. Collectively, we have experience in everything from brand development to inventory management and we pride ourselves on top-notch customer service.
Thank You Kickstarter

The Next Step
Right now, we need your help raising the funds to begin our first round of manufacturing. The funds raised by this campaign will be used to purchase materials, pay for tooling costs, and begin manufacturing Modeska’s first line of products. Any additional funds will be used to purchase inventory for Modeska to use moving forward.
Risks and challenges
We have done our best to mitigate the risks and challenges for this project.
While timelines are often a concern for Kickstarter projects, we are confident that we have carefully prepared for any potential delays. We have laid out a realistic manufacturing timeline (see the schedule above) and included extra time to allow for issues that may arise along the way.
We have taken a couple of strategic actions to ensure that we will meet our timeline. We chose manufacturing and fulfillment partners based locally in Connecticut. Their close proximity to our office will make it easier to oversee production, ensuring quality and on-time fulfillment. The teams we have chosen to partner with are experienced and reliable. They have handled a variety of large projects and have committed to making sure that Modeska meets its targeted fulfillment date. We also chose to hold back our initial launch. Some companies launch after only one round of design and prototyping, but we waited until we had a product that was ready for final production. This reduces the likelihood of last minute changes that cause delays in production. Our manufacturing and fulfillment partners are on standby.
Most importantly, we are committed to open communication. Our backers will be the first to know if anything comes along that may affect this timeline. Our team is committed to being honest and transparent should any problems or delays occur along the way. We are fully prepared to make sure this project happens in the stated timeline. We're all in this together!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
