Electron Chair by LOCK is a new concept in flat-pack furniture. The chair combines art design, ergonomics, innovative engineering and puzzle structure. The Electron Chair is not a typical chair. It is a functional sculpture.
Electron chair is a flat-pack concept. Each part of the chair is made from one sheet 18 mm beech plywood, cut precisely by a CNC router. All the elements are assembled on the puzzle principle without the use of screws, nails, etc.
The Electron chair features innovative shape and design. The base of the chair presents a symmetrical construction which provides strength in all directions. Both sides of the chair recall the international sign of “electron” from where and the name of the chair comes. The shape of the sides is formed by four triangles and a square, thus supporting the efforts without the necessity of big weight. The seat and the back of the chair are made from strong and durable, waterproof, UV protected, coated textile which gives additional comfort.
The design of the chair is subject to pure geometry of the structure which should carry a certain weight and pressure on it, thus providing beauty and harmony and in the same time strength and comfort.
The first prototype of the chair was designed two years ago and was very well accepted by the public after its publications in several design magazines, collecting enormous number of “likes”. This gave us the confidence to upgrade further the prototype. After creating many different prototypes we finally decided to introduce the last one to the audience through the platform of Kickstarter.
The joints of the chair (all rights reserved) are unique, developed by LOCK and provide strength and space reduction. They allow extremely user-friendly assembly and hold the elements of the chair strongly and in a natural way.
Colours and finishing
All the wooden elements of the chair are finished with Teak oil. The colour of the textile you can choose from the diagram bellow. The standard chair is offered with black (1) textile, for other colours please mail us with your choice.
Unpack and enjoy! We give you the opportunity to puzzle together the elements of the chair. Just follow the instructions and play! The assembly is done fast and easy, by the use only of a wooden hammer or an ordinary (iron) hammer together with the included wooden mediator.
In the box:
1. Plywood chair parts
2. Seat and back textile
4. Joints and pins
5. Wooden intermediate instrument
6. Assembling instructions
We believe in zero waste production! This one of the reason we developed a special set of accessories, which are cut together with the chair from the waste material, while forming the openings in the elements of the chair. Designed from the creator of the chair, the set of accessories are unique and allow you to possess one or every part of the chair.
The designer of the chair - Konstantin Achkov is a sculptor who worked for many years with complex structures like “tensegrity”. This is one of the reasons that Electron chair presents a mixture of art and engineering that will make your home a more artistic place.
Lock is a company for product design and flat-pack furniture manufacturing. Specialized in interlocking systems and puzzle structures we use high quality calibrated beech plywood for our production.
Why you should support us
We need your support for bringing our production to a new level which will allow us to start a serial production of the chair.
Risks and challenges
The concept of our company includes flat-pack and puzzle structure. To be able to deliver a quality product we need to follow strictly all the processes, starting from the delivery of the material, CNC cutting, finishing works, and packaging. All the wooden elements are produced in our workshop thus allowing us greater flexibility and control over the whole process. The materials we use in our production come from several suppliers that we're working with for a long period of time and we already made all the necessary arrangements. However, depending from the number of orders the suppliers may need extra time to deliver the necessary quantities which may result in unexpected delays of the deliveries.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
