REDEFINING WHAT A DIVING WATCH COULD LOOK LIKE
After the resounding success of our maiden project on kickstarter , the Vilhelm Elemental, back in 2016, we have been busy at the drawing board and gaining valuable feedback from our loyal supporters on what they loved about our watches and also what they wished were included.
After almost 2 years of research and development and we are now proud and happy to present our second release -the Vilhelm Talos Bronze & Forged Carbon 500M Diver in four assorted dials for your discerning selection and backing.
Our brand-philosophy is simple; we want to make luxurious yet affordable timepieces that are aesthetically unique and eye-catching, sporty and incorporate cutting edge materials combined with complex case-construction, whilst not compromising on functionality.
This means that we source only the best materials and components such as Swiss Sellita SW-200 automatic movements, high-grade Bronze (CUSN8) and ultra-tough & light-weight forged carbon that are normally only found in high-end watches.
However, this also means that our costs are significantly higher than many other microbrands that may not use the same high-end materials and complex machining of case parts and dials.
Which is why we need your help in making this project a reality and enable us to continue making Awesome-KICK-ASS watches for you!
MAKING THE CASE : BRONZE & FORGED CARBON
Making a Diver out of two very different materials such as Bronze and Forged Carbon was something that we always want to try doing because no other watch brand has ever combined the two materials into a single watch before; let alone in a 500m water resistant diver!
The main challenge was how to ensure that the structural integrity of the case would be able to withstand high-water pressure; which is not easy when you have 2 different types of materials and a very complex case-construction.
In order to do this, we had to experiment with multiple case-factories and prototypes until we found one that met the standards that we know our loyal customers and new ones would expect of a Vilhelm timepiece.
SO WHY THE NAME , TALOS?
It happened when one of our loyal customers who purchased our Vilhelm Elemental happened to see one of our earlier Bronze prototypes when we met him and he immediately suggested that we name this "Talos" after the bronze automation from a popular 60's movie called Jason & the Argonauts.
We are always about taking in new ideas and feedback from our customers and this name just stuck with us so we decided to use it.
It only seemed fitting to have Talos stamped on the steel caseback to "protect" the Sellita movement that powers the watch.
THE COMPLETE DIAL
Our customers loved the look of our Vilhelm Elemental but they wished it had a few things - a lot more lume and a date window. we always aim to please so we worked on incorporating this into the Talos Dials.
The 3 main (Rosegold, Blue, Black) iterations of our Talos dials have an "asphalt" layer at the base, combined with a circular-brushed middle-layer; and topped off with a unique three-dimensional, lumed "Floating" Ring.
The final iteration is a special "stealth" treatment dial consisting of a matte-grey skull face seated on a matte-black base layer, topped off with a matching matte-grey "floating" ring mounted on polished steel plots and contrasted with gold lume hands.
All Talos hour & minute hands are thick, lumed and resemble double-edge blades while the second sweeping hand resembles a Spear to tie in with the overarching theme.
DESIGNED FOR YOUR LIFESTYLE
All our Talos timepieces are manufactured with integrated high-grade rubber straps for the purpose of keeping up with your active lifestyle; from work to play, whether be it on land or in the water.
Risks and challenges
Delays due to production and QC issues are a common problem among watch projects.
Having completed a few successful production runs, we are confident of managing the quality and delivery times. A reliable manufacturer is one of the key factors and we are confident the manufacturer will meet our quality requirements, judging from our previous projects.
Preparations have been made to ensure delivery schedules are met. All molds and toolings are ready to begin. We have gone through two rounds of prototyping to ensure all parts offer the best quality.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
