Deconstructing A Classic
Not a bad first two days for our Kickstarter, though not as impressive as it could have been, mainly because it landed on a very busy Friday / Saturday combo, so I haven't been able to get the word out the way I would have wanted to!
So far, the messages I've been getting are highly encouraging - the people who want to see this happen REALLY want to see this happen!
Part of our plan was also to do a lot of documentation on how Jumpman Forever was being constructed, including going back in time to look at the original Jumpman and Jumpman, Jr. games - what made them tick, how have they influenced games, and how have they remained separated from the current video-game trends? This series is being called "Deconstructing a Classic", and if the Kickstarter or the articles are successful, we'll be doing a couple more classic game deconstructions, finding out what really made them tick. Jumpman's first entry is up (I don't know yet how many parts long it is!), and available for reading - though, oddly, it spends more time talking about Pac-Man, showing how the DNA of a given game can end up corrupted over time, which allows for a bit of contrast later for how Jumpman's gameplay hasn't ended up diluted.
