Photographer and Author Aimee Cebulski has been traveling the world for the last 15 months, interviewing women all facing the big "4-0" to find out what this milestone really means (www.finding40.net). Is it celebrated? Feared?
She's interviewed nearly 30 women in 8 different countries. In her journeys she's captured the stories and photos of incredibly diverse women: Rosa Elena, living with her seven children and one grandchild in Ecuador, never venturing further than 10 miles from home; Cristina, who left everything behind, bought a one-way ticket home to Italy and never looked back; Mala, struggling as an HIV-positive single mother in India; Natalie, juggling motherhood with a full time career as the news anchor on NBC's "The Today Show" and Dionne, currently homeless and trying to find her footing in San Diego, California.
The time has come to finish the project -- putting the stories together and sharing them with a wider audience. Her Kickstarter Campaign allows backers to pre-purchase a beautiful four-color, coffee-table style book available in spring 2013 or the PDF e-book, available in February 2013.
Risks and challenges
The greatest challenge with compilation of a book, especially in today's digitally-based world, is finding a way to fund the production and printing. Unwilling to wait around for a publisher to eventually agree to produce the finished product, I am using Kickstarter to help make the finished product a reality!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
