About this project

Inlo can detect smart phones, fitness trackers, smart watches and tracking tags -- anything with Bluetooth!
Inlo can detect smart phones, fitness trackers, smart watches and tracking tags -- anything with Bluetooth!

 Personalize with presence

Inlo connects you to your smart home using patented wireless technology. Your smart home needs to detect your presence to customize your environment, like lights, temperature, and even music. Although we’ve connected devices together, humans are not part of that connection.

Inlo devices plug into the wall, giving your smart home presence awareness using your smart phone and other wireless technologies like Bluetooth, and 802.15.4 standards. Inlo is much more than a BLE beacon; it’s a powerful local positioning system.

Small and unobtrusive.
Small and unobtrusive.

We designed Inlo to be as easy as possible to install. It connects to any US standard wall outlet to assist you with your daily life, while still letting you use the outlet behind Inlo!

Inlo can find you and your things. Place Inlo devices in all major rooms of your home. Inlo will know your presence via your smart phone and the location of any other wireless device down to a foot of accuracy.

Search for stuff in your house. Abilities to connect to IFTTT and Amazon Alexa make Inlo even more useful.

Connect Inlo to Amazon Alexa and ask where someone is, like your pet wearing a third-party tracking tag (e.g. Tile), or where something like your lost wireless headphones are hiding.

Inlo can recognize Bluetooth/ BLE-enabled devices like smartwatches, fitness trackers, tracking tags. Inlo can also identify other smart home devices like thermostats, smart plugs and more that are 802.15.4 enabled (Contiki, Thread, Zigbee).

Simply identify the devices in the Inlo mobile app as “My Headphones,” “Hallway Thermostat,” “My Apple Watch,” “My Android Phone” “My iPhone.”

Presence is powerful. Use presence as a trigger to customize your smart home, like playing music on a Sonos, adjusting the lighting on your Philips Hue or even setting the temperature on a smart thermostat. Connecting with IFTTT will give you the power to create custom environments individualized to your preferences.

Part of Inlo's utility comes from a fully optimized map view with the ability to track items and create interactive layers like fences and hotspots.

Mapping: Inlo devices create a map of your home, placing you and any identified items on the map. In the Inlo mobile app, you can identify any smartphones, wireless headphones, headsets, tracking tags to see them in the map.

Identifying other items like 802.15.4 enabled devices, like (contiki, Thread, Zigbee) thermostats or smart plugs provides Inlo another data point to make presence detection more accurate.

Hotspots & Fences: Using the Inlo map of your home, you’ll be able to create and see hotspots and fences. Hotspots define certain areas in the Inlo network, so you can have something specific happen, like dimming the lights when you plop down onto the couch. Fences are similar except these come in the form of lines for you to draw a perimeter around certain areas in your home, like if your dog is supposed to stay away from your office!

Future of Mapping

  • A fully interactive map in the Inlo mobile app that can guess your home layout based on the position of the Inlo devices, which you would be able to edit and make more accurate.
  •  Saving paths of moving devices to enable Inlo to guess doorways and common corridors of your environment.
  •  Sharing of the map with family so they can see themselves or their stuff in the map.

How Inlo works

Image shows app mockups of concepts.

Inlo is not a BLE beacon. Inlo is not a motion sensor. Inlo is so much more. Inlo is patented wireless technology. Inlo devices connected to your walls create a 3D network to detect the presence of any devices you identify in the Inlo mobile app.

Installation is simple. Plug each Inlo device into a wall outlet; set up each one in the mobile app; then, identify the devices you want track in your home like smart phones, smart watches, wearables, fitness trackers, and tracking tags like Tile.

Identify 802.15.4 enabled devices like thermostats, motion detectors or smart plugs, too! The more devices you identify the smarter the Inlo network grows.

Inlo Profiles

Inlo creates a profile for you where you can state what devices belong to you, define smart home preferences and create smarter rules for automation. Your profile lets your home, and the smart devices inside of it, recognize it is you that is near. Inlo profiles will help customize environments and homes if you have a spouse, roommate, or significant other living with you.

With an Inlo profile, you can connect to other services like Spotify. Also the devices you add to the Inlo mobile app like smart phones, smart watches, wireless headphones, etc. can be tied to you for organized asset management.

In an Inlo profile, you’ll be able to define preferences to have a smarter home automation experience. Define the temperature you enjoy, your favorite lighting color, how bright you prefer the light, and even your taste in music -- anything the environment could need to optimize your life.

Rules

When Inlo knows your preferences you can make better rules for smarter home automation! Instead of rules saying “if there is motion,” or “if it’s a certain time of day,” “then turn on the light,” rules can be presence based: “If a device with your profile walks into a room, then set my preferences for these certain devices.”

Inlo is planning to have integration and support with IFTTT for presence-based rules.

Inlo Features and Mobile App:

Find People (V1): Identify which device represents you, like a smart phone, fitness tracker, smartwatch, or any other wireless thing you always have on you.

Find Stuff (V1): Identify other devices like laptops, wireless headphones, third-party tracking tags (findables). Assign them names    so you can see where they are in your home’s Inlo network.

Organize Using Locations (V1): Living room, bedroom, restroom. You can view these locations in list view or go through the setup to have maps for any location.

Create Hotspots: A hotspot can be a closet or couch remembered virtually in the network of Inlo devices. This can be a spot where you want something to happen, like turning on the TV when you get near the couch.

Create Fences: An imaginary radius around the hotspots. If you get close to the door without your laptop, you can get a reminder, or trigger lights to go off.

Create a Smart Home Profile (V1): Designate your preferences for temperature from a thermostat, dimness or color of light and even music from services like Spotify. You can also designate what wireless devices belong to you, like which wireless headphones and laptop are yours.

The Future of Inlo: Start in the Smart Home, Then Anywhere

Inlo has the power to make smart homes smarter and any other indoor space smarter. Can you imagine if your favorite bar or restaurant knew it was you when you were there? You could have a fresh cocktail or your favorite meal waiting for you! Checking into a hotel could be exponentially easier with your hotel room door unlocking once it recognizes your Inlo profile.

Image the power of an Inlo-powered local map. The same way you can interact with GPS to find a place, you could do the same to pinpoint the exact location of something in a store, or the terminal in an airport so you don’t miss your flight!

The possibilities are endless with Inlo being a simple yet powerful local positioning system. But first, we want to start in the home because Inlo can make smart homes smarter. Inlo can help find your lost headphones or remote, and be so powerful to customize a space with your preferences for lighting, temperature and music. Join us as we create the next revolutionary piece of hardware and software for the Internet of Things.

Risks and challenges

The founders have spent years hard at work proving the viability for Inlo to be a mass manufactured product

For anyone who has backed a crowdsourced campaign before that had hardware involved, you will know the hardware is usually the weakest link in the chain. Software and cloud support can be done easily and cheaply locally in the USA, but hardware is not the case. We recognize this and our team has a combined decade worth of experience in handling these tricky relationships and logistics.

We have trusted manufacturers we have worked with in the past, and we are working with a major parts distributor to help with quality of parts and logistics.
