Live game on Tues, Jan 8th

Hey Piviteers,

We're going to try something fun to show what a game of Pivit is like. A friend of mine has agreed to play a game with me that will be broadcast as we play.

Each move will be tweeted as it happens from the account @PivitMoves, as well as being added to pivitgame.com. In case you miss the action, I'll leave the game history up with a visual display of the board at pivitgame.com. This way you can get a sense for what kind of thinking goes into the game and the situations that arise.

I expect this to be a thoughtful game. My opponent is particularly intimidating at abstract games (gulp).

Looking forward to it!

- Tyler

Ahhh, right. I was forgetting that the Master's primary ability is to move any number of spaces. Thanks for the detailed answer!

Hi Martin, I'd say the adjusted paying time was about 2 hours, which is longer than average in my experience. I think Mason and I each took longer per move because we felt some pressure to not make any stupid moves as we were broadcasting our every move :)

It's "adjusted time" because in reality I was tweeting moves and editing-by-hand a rather cumbersome specification of moves for the web view on pivitgame.com. This updating process took a significant chunk of time, in addition to other distractions as Mason and I were playing remotely (mainly conversing by gmail chat).

If you like faster gameplay, the 6x6 board works great for 2 players, and can even be used for 4 players (not 3 because you can't have a fair number of pieces). If you have a 2 player game on the 8x8 board, like we did, the game can last a while, a bit like a chess game without time limits where the players choose to play very carefully.

About the end of the game: Instead of resigning (how sad), I could have taken red's master at h7, but then red can immediately take my master from h1 to h7. It's a master exchange that leaves our master counts at 2 red to 1 blue, with red also having a minion advantage and a well-defended position. I could have kept playing, but even now I feel confident I would have lost.

How long did the game take?

I'm not entirely sure why the game ended when it did. Couldn't blue have taken the red piece at H7, leaving Red only up by one piece?

Hey all, the game is starting soon. I'm waiting for Mason to begin. There was a delay with his train.

The game is set to start tomorrow at 4pm Pacific time = 7pm Eastern time.
