Explore a land divided between the Unblinking Sun and the Everlasting Shadow in this officially licensed campaign setting for Tiny Dungeon 2e.
Between Sun & Shadow 2e is a sandbox-style campaign setting infused with advanced alchemy, clockwork technology, and a powerful new magic system.
Between Sun & Shadow 2e allows you to explore Siran, where half of the world lives in perpetual daylight, while the other experiences continuous darkness. The wondrous creations of master alchemists and clockwork engineers help create a thriving society, and a once forgotten magic known as Carving is being rediscovered. Those who unlock its secrets may be the ones to protect and preserve the Eternal Empire, or they may be the ones to end the reign of the One True King.
Between Sun & Shadow 2e is a sandbox-style setting. Filled with scores of Rumors that act as adventure hooks, it is up to you and your fellow players to explore what’s true and what’s false, who’s good and who’s bad. It is designed to be fully compatible with Tiny Dungeon 2e and the TinyD6 ruleset. It includes:
- 5 Heritages – Cogor, Eku-uke, Muaj, Utarok, and Zlax'xon.
- Cogor: Diminutive four-armed masters of clockwork technology who make up for their small size with brains and battle armor.
- Eku-uke: Winged bird-men with a penchant for patterns and symmetry who search for their true purpose in life.
- Muaj: Sentient carnivorous plants resembling a humanoid-shaped collection of twisted vines with multiple enzyme-squirting mouths.
- Utarok: Tattooed creatures known for their raw physical strength who have raised their traditional body art to the next level with alchemical tattoos.
- Zlax’xon: Militaristic intelligent insects with a history of service and a strong sense of community.
- 50+ Traits & Prestige Traits including a powerful system of magic known as Carving, which allows Adventurers to manipulate elements, energy, people, and even time and space.
- 20+ creatures to fight or befriend.
- 100+ adventure hooks.
- A random adventure generator.
- A land of adventure in a tidally locked world, with descriptions of major cities, locations, and influential groups.
- A map of Siran by Gill Pearce.
- 20 pieces of art by Nicolás R. Giacondino.
The Between Sun & Shadow Deck is a set of 54 cards. It includes monsters, NPCs, and magic items. Designed to help speed up play, it can be used as a random encounter generator, a random treasure generator, and as a reference for GMs and players during play. The final combination of monsters, NPCs, and items will be determined after we see which stretch goals we unlock.
- For $5, you get the print-and-play PDF and an at-cost code for a physical deck. Just add $5 to any pledge level!
Between Sun & Shadow 2e will look and feel like a part of the Tiny D6 line of games. Editing will be done by Alana Joli Abbott and page layout and design will be done by Robert Denton III, both of whom have extensive experience with TinyD6 games. Nicolás R. Giacondino has provided artwork for several TinyD6 games.
Since this is our first Kickstarter campaign, it has been kept simple and straightforward to ensure we can deliver the book as promised and on time. The goal is to fund the book, which will include everything listed above. The stretch goals will increase the page count with additional content.
The book will be 5.5 in x 8.5 in. If we unlock all the stretch goals, the book will be approximately 75–80 pages. Without, it'll be closer to 55–60.
Blue Oxrat is an independent role-playing game company founded by Gregory Israel. We currently focus on creating new and exciting additions for the TinyD6 line of role-playing games. We created the Spirit World micro-setting and Random Adventure Generator for Tiny Dungeon 2e (along with some Traits, too). Our micro-setting, The King’s Daggers, was featured in TinyZine: Issue 4.
We’re excited to be working with a talented group of artists, writers, gamers, and designers to help make this project spectacular:
Alana Joli Abbott, editor of Tiny Dungeon 2e: The Hatchling Edition, is the author of interactive multiple choice novel apps (Choice of the Pirate), novels (Regaining Home), and comics (Ithaca). Her game writing has been featured in Dungeon and Dragon magazines. She is co-editor Kaiju Rising 2 and Knaves: A Blackguards Anthology. She lives near New Haven, CT.
Alan Bahr is the lead designer and founder of Gallant Knight Games. A game designer best known for the TinyD6 line of games, along with other games such as Cold Shadows, For Coin & Blood, Planet Mercenary, Gallant Pocket Games, and many more, Alan is the owner/operator of Gallant Knight Games. He’s an avid fan of Noir films, Arthurian mythos, smooth jazz, clever role-playing games, and his amazing wife.
Robert Denton III has worked on creative development and graphic design for a number of tabletop games and franchises, including Legend of the Five Rings, the Powder Mage Roleplaying Game, Radiant: Offline Battle Arena, Doomtown, and the Tiny D6 RPG line. He lives in the New River Valley of Virginia with his wife and three cats.
Steffie de Vaan is a Dutch author of role-playing books and short stories, who has written for settings such as Vampire the Masquerade Anniversary Edition, Changeling the Lost Second Edition, and Seventh Sea Second Edition. She loves horror, fantasy, sci-fi stories, and their cross genres in any medium; watching short films and tutorials on YouTube; and inclusive feminism.
Nicolás R. Giacondino (N.R.G!) is a professional illustrator and comic-book artist, based in Mar del Plata, Argentina. His fan work on Games-Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 property (under the Aerion the Faithful alias), his first graphic novel UTOPIA, as well as his successful webcomic projects Free Mars, Flight of the Binturong, and Divinity, are some of the highlights of his career. He has illustrated several comic-book and anthology projects for Outland Entertainment (outlandentertainment.com), including Nightfell. He is currently illustrating various RPGs for Gallant Knight Games, including Tiny Supers, Tiny Wastelands, and Destiny of Tides, amongst others. You can find more of his work at: nicolasrgiacondino.deviantart.com, instagram.com/nicolasgiacondino, and facebook.com/nicolasgiacondino.
Gill Pearce has been illustrating professionally both as an artist and cartographer for 24 years and has numerous publishing credits for roleplaying game companies including Savage Mojo, Chaosium, Cubicle 7, Moon Design, and Pelgrane Press, as well as fiction credits in publications by companies that include Mercia Books. She tends to use traditional media such as pen and ink and acrylics (paint and pencils) to create her artworks. Her website is www.hellionsart.com and she can be found in person at conventions such as UK Games Expo dressed as a pirate with a purple hat… unless she is wearing kitty ears. Gill loves cats: she has seven at the moment and has ambitions of becoming a crazy cat lady––indeed she might have achieved that goal already!
All our stretch goals are focused on providing more gaming content to expand the opportunities for fantastic adventures in the land of Siran.

What is an at-cost print on demand coupon/code?
The goal is to make this as streamlined as possible for the Blue Oxrat team, so we're putting fulfillment duties into the capable hands of DriveThruRPG.
Once the book has been completed, backers will receive an at-cost code to print their books on DriveThruRPG. They can order the books they pledged for and get them shipped directly to them. Please keep in mind – backers will still need to pay for shipping costs and the at-cost price of the book.
Printing costs are estimated at around (or under) $4 USD for the softcover, and around (or under) $10-12 USD for the hardcover.
DriveThruRPG provides excellent service and support. We're confident they can help us deliver a beautiful book to all our backers on time.
Risks and challenges
Q: Can Blue Oxrat deliver the project?
A: Yes. Although this is our first Kickstarter, we’re collaborating with and being advised by Alan Bahr of Gallant Knight Games who has an amazing track record of delivering Kickstarters. The project has been kept simple to keep it manageable and achievable for a first time Kickstarter.
Q: What if the complexity of the project overwhelms Blue Oxrat?
A: We deliberately built this project to avoid being complex. We have straightforward pledge levels to make it easy to manage, and we've carefully budgeted and determined our stretch goals. In order to keep the project manageable, all stretch goals are writing-based. Nothing needs to be manufactured, shipped, etc.
Q: What if the content is not finished?
A: The draft of the main text is 100% completed. Stretch goals are outlined and need to be written if unlocked.
Q: What about delays in art?
A: We've already begun to work with Nic and some of his art is already completed. Isn't it great? We're really happy with Nic’s work and he’s ready to do the rest when this gets funded. We have backup artists who can step in to finish the product, if needed.
Q: Increase in shipping costs?
A: DriveThruRPG operates all over the world, and we're confident they'll get our backers the best shipping cost!
Q: What if something happens to the principals?
A: If something were to happen to Gregory, or another writer on the project, we've identified our backups. The files and plans have been communicated to the whole team, and a new project lead (who has been identified) will step up.
