While push-up bras, sexy dolls, and hip hop dance lessons seem to be the normal currency for ten-year-old girls, I am a convicted mom who sounds an alarm for other moms to avoid such sexualization. My fun, age-appropriate Secret Keeper Girl mom/daughter connecting resources moved to the stage several years ago with over 150,000 around the country attending. In August I’m going to debut the all-new Secret Keeper Girl Crazy Hair Tour, with refueled conviction to emphasize modesty, fashion & true beauty!
Today’s little girls face peer pressure their moms didn’t know until they were in high school. Research indicates that a little girl who does what is becoming “normal” — wearing clothes that make her look older, succumbing to boy-craziness, and obsessing about her appearance — will be at greater risk of body image issues, eating disorders and depression when she is a teen. These things can also increase the risk of an early sexual debut.
That’s why I created Secret Keeper Girl resources and live events. I want to walk beside you to knock peer pressure between the eyes and encourage your daughter that she is worth so much more than the norm. Would you consider helping me grow this little movement of moms to the next level? I need your help to cover the start-up costs—music rights, staging, lights, costuming, and especially manpower—of the all new Secret Keeper Girl Crazy Hair Tour debuting in August.
It’s normal for a girl to be boy-crazy and be obsessed with fashion and beauty, but those crowd-pleasing choices have risks. So, let’s get crazy! Secret Keeper Girl: The Crazy Hair Tour helps moms cultivate God-crazy daughters who embrace inner beauty, biblical modesty, and vibrant purity.
The Crazy Hair Tour — Secret Keeper Girl’s fourth themed tour — is a Bible-based relationship-building experience for moms and their tween daughters (typically ages 8-12). The two and a half hour event will start with moms and daughters competing in crazy game shows. How’s a mother/daughter duo get into a contest? Crazy hair might help! A toe-tapping trip through the decades will show you just how crazy hair can get, before we begin to talk about true beauty.
Through worship, fun Bible teaching and memorable stories, the audience will be asked to choose if they will be normal or crazy. A normal girl takes her cues from normal fashion designers that tell her to dress like she’s seventeen and might even be tempted to take her relationship cues from normal boy-crazy friends. But a God-crazy girl takes her cues from the Bible, her parents and... well, maybe even our crazy fashion show that dares her to be different. This explosive finale to our crazy night challenges everyone to take our Truth or Bare Fashion Tests!
Let’s send a strong message that normal is overrated. We’re going to be moms and daughters who are God-crazy instead!
Our Secret Keeper Girl Crazy Hair Tour Cast and Crew t-shirts have been mocked up. You'd think only our team would get to wear these, but if you help us get kickstarted, we consider you a part of the team! So, we're offering these exclusively as a Kickstarter incentive. Read about our other great incentives to the right.
Risks and challenges
This is our fourth live event and we’ve always succeeding in pulling it off. The challenge is that the cost of creating it always comes at a time when we are not touring—the summer— and do not have income generating. That’s a very real challenge for us. We need your help getting over the summer bump.
Another challenge is simply that we’re a small ministry that wants to grow. That means we want to bring you an event that is at the “next level.” It’s costing more than it cost last time, especially in terms of manpower and hours invested. Our small but mighty team is devoted almost exclusively to creating this event for the next two months. That’s expensive.
A final challenge is that we each really need to see a good hair stylist. Wouldn’t you agree? (Watch the video if you don’t understand!)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
