An iBook textbook covering modern recording technology and practices.
What is AMPP (The Advanced Media Production Program)?
AMPP is a school that has grown out of classes offered over the past six years by In Your Ear Music and Recording. Beginning in Fall of 2013, AMPP will grow to offer more than twenty diverse classes.
Mission Statement - “AMPP is an entrepreneurial program that brings disciplined craftsmanship together with innovative technology to help define the future of sound, sight and motion design.
Our students are helping drive the dialogue about emerging approaches that are transforming creative media.”
AMPP is taught by industry professionals, these courses are designed to engage students in innovation, creativity, and building strong industry connections with creative professionals, manufacturers, and potential employers. The curriculum is split into two types of classes:
Core Courses which focus on the history, art, practice and technological standards of dynamic media. Areas of study include audio and music production, cinematic editorial, emerging digital cinema production, 3D animation and gaming, and screenplay development.
Focused Discipline Courses which cover a wide range of lab-based study for sound producers, video production and post-production professionals.
A huge part of the AMPP philosophy is the integration of technological innovation and creativity. So over the Spring 2013 semester AMPP will be phasing out written materials and textbooks, replacing them with the new iBook format. These iBooks will be loaded with audio and video examples, interactive quizzes, links, and study guides to re-enforce the information.
But these books aren't just for AMPP students, every textbook written for the AMPP program will be available on the iTunes store. We truly believe the AMPP textbooks will revolutionize the way digital media is taught. So we want to be able to offer these books to the general public, as well as our students.
Where is the money going?
The money will be used for re-writing and programming the first iBook (Listen and Capture) in the AMPP program. Listen and Capture will be used by AMPP students as part of the program, and will also be available to the public on the iTunes store. And, if more than $9,800 is made, the extra money will go towards the creation of more iBooks for the remaining Core and Advanced Core Classes.
Listen and Capture
Listen and Capture is an audio foundation texbook which covers proper acoustics, microphone types and techniques, audio physics, audio history, computers and computer parts, and basic software used in recording and editing.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The biggest challenge that AMPP faces is the financial burden of starting a new educational program. We need unique, modern teaching technologies that are currently unavailable. The textbooks currently available for teaching advanced media concepts are either out of date or a poor fit for the hands-on nature of our classes. We are exploring various funding options, including kickstarter for our iBook initiative.
