"There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them." -Ray Bradbury
The BIBLIOBICICLETA is a school librarian's idea to bring free books into the hands of the people, by bringing the books to them! Blending a passion and enthusiasm for books, literacy, and bicycling, I hope to construct a traveling bike library. THE BIBLIOCICLETA is a pop-up bike library that visits and serves at neighborhood bicycle and literacy events, parks, beaches, and performs homeless outreach in San Francisco. The mission is to instill a love of reading, of learning, and bicycling in people of all ages and backgrounds.
Think of a "Little Free Library", on bike! Take a book, donate a book, or just take a book! BIBLIOBICICLETA aims to bring donated books of all kinds: childrens, adult, fiction, non-fiction, etc.
- It's exercise for your brain!
- To escape a world of cell phones and computers.
- To change our lives.
- To imagine.
- To challenge yourself.
- Words are our everyday tool.
- Reading gives you information.
Why a free library on bike?... Why not?
- Information shouldn't cost anything, libraries like being accessible.
- Fresh and free air, sunshine, wind.
- Bikes are cool, and can go anywhere.
"Reading really will be the lifeblood of everything they do and everything they accomplish." - Cassandra James

How you can help
The BIBLIOBICICLETA hopes to come alive with the help of your talents, service, time, generous donations. Spread the word, believe in the idea, share with your friends and family. Any support in any shape or form is GREATLY appreciated.
If you have any spare parts that will cut down our cost and or used recycled/environmentally-friendly resources.
If you are a fellow bicyclist and would like to be a fellow bibliobicicleta rider, let me know.
Where are you going to get all the books?
Books are being donated ALL THE TIME. I've received books from family, friends, the Friends of the SFPL Library, the SF Children's Book Project, and other nooks and crannies of San Franicsco.
If you have books you would like to donate, I can pick them up. If you see the BIBLIOBICICLETA out and about, throw us a book! Otherwise, I will receive books donated to libraries that the libraries don't make use of.
Who are you?
I'm a librarian who likes to make things out of books so that people get excited about them. I believe that reading enthusiasm is contagious and has the power to transform lives. In the past, a fellow school librarian and I recreated a book igloo in a school library (INSPIRED by Colombian artist Miler Lagos).
Recently, I've constructed this:
Help believe and support the BIBLIOBICICLETA! Thank you!
