Howdy there! Our name is 'Circle Circle dot dot'. We are a brand-spanking-new Theatre Company laying down our roots in San Diego with our Launch-Project "The Break-Up/Break-Down" happening this summer! We are a Community-Based Collaborative Theatre Workshop. We are Collaborative in that all artists or company members involved in each production will have a huge say in what the final product will be. And we are Community-Based in that all of our plays are developed with some sort of group, that wants to share their stories to be turned into a theatrical expereince.
For our launch show, the group that has helped develop the insanely fun Comedy called "The Break-Up/Break-Down" is made up of diverse artists who work in different disciplines and are joining together to explore and create new art. We came up with a universal theme: Rejection (something that is very present in a young artist's world), and shared personal stories that were then devised into a script by playwright Katie Harroff.
We are beginning development rehearsals and will soon show our work to the San Diego arts scene in a staged-reading scheduled for next month at Diversionary Theatre. After this reading we will dive into rehearsals and the actual show will be produced at the 10th Avenue Theatre in Downtown San Diego June 27th through July 12th 2011.
We have already had very successful explorations in the studio to make this an exceptional performance experience including puppets, dance-numbers, live singing, stop-animation films, and shadow-play.
We have cast ten talented local artists willing to explore and expose themselves in ways that may or may not be illegal. They have been more then willing for the sake of a new and exciting communal Theatre experience that pushes originally set limitations and idealisms that can often stifle the development of new work. We want to bring personal, relatable stories to the San Diego Theatre stages in new, highly entertainingly crafted performances.
We hope this money will help pay for our space-rental, and some of our production costs including set design, costuming, and various needs for not only an outstandingly performed piece (which will be the case with our fantastic cast), but a beautiful and professional-looking production as well. This money will not only help this project- but give us a boost of support and momentum to continue after this piece has completed and move on to our next new workshop.
