For the past few years I've been torn between my two favorite things, animals and jewelry. Finally I have found the perfect way to combine them and I am SO excited. I am currently a college senior majoring in jewelry design/metalsmithing and have my senior thesis exhibition this May. I really wanted my show to be about more than just "oh look what she made", I want it to make a difference. It took me months of going back and forth trying to pick a theme for my work to follow (of course every other idea came back to animals). Finally I said who am I kidding go with what I love and it'll work out. So animals it is =]
Each piece will be based on a specific characteristic or physical trait of a certain animal- examples are in my video! Some pieces are more literal than others, some will be small scale jewelry pieces and a few will be larger more functional/sculptural. I've been planning this all summer and have finally worked out all the details. I have 11 different designs ready and would like to complete as many as possible, if not all of them.
How will you be helping?? My goal is to raise enough money for supplies that I can make as much work as humanly possible- this includes, metals like silver, nu-gold, copper & steel, as well as, gemstones, fabrication and finishing materials- solder, wire, patinas, tools like setting & diamond burs, burnishers, torch tips and some display elements for my show. Basically you'll be helping a young artist have a promising start to a dream career! As a thank you for your help I'll be making an exclusive line of pendants- all animal related of course! I do apologize that it will not be until January that the pendants will be available since it is a one woman operation and I can only go as fast as my hands will let me. I will have further updates on pieces, progress and organizations.
This means so, so much to me and I'm so nervous already so I would like to thank you for supporting me. Visit my new website to check out my work and other updates =] >>> http://taylormedwardsmetals.webs.com/ <<< THANKS!!!
